I am Mr. Filbert Kimbolo, I work for Action Against Hunger as a community plan supervisor.
I would like to tell a story I founded interesting and that happened while we were doing the
promotion and marketing of our project. We were at Zinguesi village, Intenga. We wanted
to understand the economic capacity of the village in order to check if, after the implementation
of the project activities, they would be able to cover the expenses related to the infrastructure
maintenance. The villagers said they could cover these costs. When we asked for more
details, they explained their village is the main bean producer in the region, and
that the surrounding villages had learnt from their experience. I asked then for more details and they told me:
"one of the villagers was walking around one morning. There was a truck, which had passed by the night before, and beans where falling from the truck.
He saw there were plenty of beans. The man collected the fallen beans while he was walking.
When he came back home he did not think about cooking the beans, but rather about planting them. He started then a bean plantation.
The first harvest was good, the second one was even bigger so he sold some beans and distributed the remaining ones among the other households.
Then, the village acquired expertise, production was high so we distributed beans to the surrounding villages, which are now cultivating beans as well."
Now the surrounding villages such as Ibala, Imondo, Mansodia and all this area are producing beans.
That's the story I wanted to share with you today, thank you.
