Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in The House - Movie Review\par
\par \par
Hello everyone I\rquote m Canadian Critic and yesterday I decided I\rquote d watch a
quick horror film on Netflix, only to stumble upon something very refreshing. \ldblquote
I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in The House\rdblquote is one of the few films I\rquote ve considered
watching for my Halloween movie tradition. Thankfully clicking play on this one, as I
was in complete shock by the end credits. \par
\par \par
I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in The House, tells the story of a young nurse who takes
care of an elderly author who happens to live in a haunted house. Now, this film tackles
a very simple narrative. One which almost everyone has seen or read before, where an
individual is placed inside of a haunted house, only to experience what the audience did not
anticipate. And boy oh boy did this movie ever nail this one in a entirely different
direction! \par \par
\par The story is so uniquely structured, it followed
similarities to older horror novels written in the 50\rquote s or 60\rquote s, which is
only another parallel to the actual story. Much of the story is told through narration,
especially in the first half of the film as the phenomenal opening sequence, was entirely
narration. The writing was brilliant as well, giving nuance to each character, very subtly
of course. However it gave so much more weight to the ending, I was beyond what I\rquote
d simply call being engaged with each character.\par \par
\par Everything about the film was extremely special
and simply well done. The direction was incredibly unique, as the movie was shot in stills and
only operating in hand held when necessary. The sound design was simple, yet insanely
effective. Never falling onto jumpscares, constantly building tension and releasing
said tension through other means. The lighting gave fantastic service to this! Every shot
was mysterious and lingered on much longer than necessary, to the point of having to
pause the film so you no longer feel the anticipation building. It\rquote s just mind blowing film
making! And I can\rquote t stress enough how refreshing it is to see a rising directing
shining light into a genre, only few studios actually give the greenlight tp. \par
\par \par
The movie is genuinely quite scary as it is told as a thriller and presented as a horror
film. The film takes place entirely in one location and it\rquote s only grows more uncomfortable
and complex as the story goes on. The only down sides to the story, if not the entirety
of the film. Would be poorly delivered dialogue, excluding narration during the first half
of the film. Alongside a very, and I mean very slow pace. Where it may give the incentive
to just stop watching for a decent amount of audience members.\par

I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in The House is really good horror slash thriller I\rquote
d highly suggest checking out on netflix. The subtleties in storytelling is so fascinating
it\rquote s worth seeing for the reason alone, however if you\rquote re looking for an uncomfortable
and creepy ride I believe this is the way to go. I\rquote m going to give this one a
7.5/10.\par \par
\par If you enjoyed the video make sure to leave

content in the coming weeks, so if that sounds like a good time to you, then why not stay
