Pilgrims from all over the world are eagerly awaiting Magis Brazil 2013
However, not everyone can afford to cover their own costs.
About 30% of young people need help to participate in the event.
When we, the Central Team, began to prepare Magis Brazil,
we came across an important issue.
Several pilgrims from Africa, Asia and Central America
let us know about their desire to come to Magis Brazil, but did not have the financial means to do so.
And for us Jesuits, having or not having money was never a valid criterion for participation in our activities.
Therefore, we began to think about what we could do to mobilize both the Brazilian
and the international populations connected to the Society of Jesus.
How could we mobilize these people so that they could help us,
Jesuits, to bring these pilgrims to Brazil?
Then we created the Campaign “Adopt a Pilgrim,”
which is an opportunity we are giving the people connected to us to donate any amount for this cause,
which is the cause of people who cannot afford to come to Magis Brazil.
We received videos that moved us deeply.
Videos from these countries, from pilgrims asking for help,
telling us first hand that they couldn't afford to come but they had that will, which is the most important thing to us.
The campaign “Adopt a Pilgrim” is intended to enable the participation of these young people.
Jesuit schools, universities and parishes have already received folders with instructions for donations.
Anyone can help and it's very simple to do it: just access the Magis Brazil web page:
www.magis2013.com, click on the Campaign “Adopt a Pilgrim”
and access the link to Pag Seguro to enter the amount you wish to donate.
Magis Brazil 2013 begins on July 12, in Salvador.
Over 2,000 young people will participate in this meeting that precedes World Youth Day.
They will participate in experiments throughout Brazil, getting to know a little about our country's reality.
I hope you will also be moved by these videos, as we did,
and will help us with this campaign that is so important for us and for these pilgrims.
