A common question when somebody is involved in an
accident with an interstate truck is,
"When is the correct time when I should hire an attorney?"
And the answer to that question is, as early as possible.
Why's that? First of all, it's important to do
an excellent investigation, you need to get photos at the accident scene,
you may need an accident reconstructionist, you want to locate witnesses.
Second of all, in a trucking accident
the logs of the truckers are relevant, oftentimes
the interstate trucking companies only keep those logs
of how along the driver had been driving, if the driver received the proper
rest, if the driver had been driving for more than 12 hours at a time.
So you're going to need to obtain those records in the first six months otherwise
those records may no longer
exist. Second reason is,
the trucking companies very often
get their attorneys and their insurance adjusters at the scene
immediately after the accident, so they're going to have a head start
in order to prove the case. So the important thing in a trucking
accident is
you want to document the liability and damages
as early as possible, and the time to call the attorney is today,
not three months from now.
