In May of last year, I was approached by Yamaha to create an iPad version of the TENORI-ON.
At the time, I was honestly hesitant, because this TENORI-ON was originally created as one of a kind hardware.
I was extremely particular about everything, from the casing to the touch of the buttons to its operation,
so I was concerned about how that would transfer to an iPad or an iPhone.
However, some functions could not be included in the original TENORI-ON for various reasons.
A network function, for example, was the first function I envisaged at the conceptual stage.
I always imagined how wonderful it would be to connect with people around the world using the TENORI-ON over a network,
having a jam session, with various people, and exchanging music.
The idea that this can easily be realized by recreating the TENORI-ON on an iPhone or iPad slowly dawned on me.
So, I reluctantly agreed to create the iPad and iPhone versions.
But when the actual prototype was finished, I honestly thought it was pretty cool.
I gradually got into it and decided to include various new functions that were not in the original TENORI-ON.
I've been working on it for the last year.
We finally completed it, and you have this TENORI-ON operating on this iPad, this small iPhone, and even an iPod touch.
I also thought, what if you connect the original hardware to this iPhone or iPad?
Now, you can connect with people on the other side of the world, for example, over a network and have a jam session with them.
But, by attaching this midi adaptor to the iPad and connecting the original TENORI-ON,
you can jam on the original TENORI-ON with an iPad or an iPhone.
In this way, the TENORI-ON's potential becomes greater.
The release of these iPad and iPhone versions will probably make more people aware of the original TENORI-ON.
So, I want more people to experience how much fun this TENORI-ON can be: anyone can easily create music,
connect with others in Japan and around the world, and enjoy jamming and exchanging music with each other.
