Hi, I'm Lyndsey, and I'm launching the "A Life in Character" documentary. This is a
documentary about a community and a culture, and maybe dispelling some of the rumours.
There are a lot of misconceptions, a lot of stereotypes, that are like "We're just a bunch
of 'nerds' who get together on the weekend and dress up." When that's not the case. I
want to give a look into why this is so important to so many of us. The fact that it's its own
culture alone is absolutely fascinating. I think this is absolutely a cool project because
not only do I want to be a director and this would be a huge kickstart into what I want
to do and what I love, but it would help me do that in a way where it connects to my own
life. Because I am a cosplayer, and I am involved in this community, and there are no films
that I know of that are like this. Which is astonishing to me, because this is something
that you will find all over the world. A big family of costumers coming together, and connecting
across seas, across countries, across lines of war. And... a lot of people think it's
just a hobby. When it's not. It is hard work and dedication. It's a lifestyle. And it's
its own art form. There are so many kinds of art that spawn just from this, so many
kinds of photography, videography, music, voicework, and I would love to give everybody
a glance, just a glance, into this because everybody is so amazing. And what I need to
show you this world, to show you this whole universe, is contributors. I need contributors
to give me about 2500 dollars, and this is a lot for one person to try and raise. I need
it for equipment, I need it for emergencies, things to help me as I travel and film all
of these amazing things, this bonding, that happens across these lines; there are people
who would not be friends otherwise. And I need people to help me spread the word, because
talking is just one of the most powerful things that I can think of for this project. If you
can tell somebody about this, just direct them to this project, where maybe they can
help me raise the money up to my goal, that would be absolutely amazing. I also need anybody
who's willing to help out with art, music, anything else that you think you can help
me with. You'll get credit, and though I'm obviously not overflowing with cash, we will
discuss payment. Just send me an email, it's in the description. Now, not only do I get
things, but you get things for giving me things. So far, and these are subject to change as
I develop more ideas and think of what you all would like and get messages, $1 - because
any amount helps, any amount at all! - you get your name included in the thank-you video.
Because there will be a lot of videos uploaded during this, update videos, and in the very
last one I'm going to talk about all the people who've been a help, and your name will be
in it if you donate just one dollar. $5, you get that, plus a handwritten letter of my
deepest gratitude. $20 and above, you get both those and a digital copy of the movie
for free. $50, you'll get a signed DVD plus everything else. $100, everything plus your
name in the credits and a one-hour Skype session with me to talk about my filming, my editing,
my narrative, anything. $200, you get everything else plus an extra hour added onto that Skype
session and one free wig commission, if you're a cosplayer like me. If not, we'll work out
something else. I hae a few other ideas, but if you have an idea, please email me because
this is absolutely one of the most important things to me right now and if I can even get
a little help with it, I would be so deeply thankful to you. Thank you so much for even
considering watching! And remember, help me get the word out, thanks, you'll see an update
soon.
