Hey guys. My name is Tim Schmoyer and it's Tuesday - time for some more online video
news. Today I want to tell you guys about a new experiment that YouTube is trying over
in the U.K. and if it works successfully over there they might be bringing it over here
to the U.S. And that is that now YouTube is available on television and I don't mean like
just on Smart TVs but actually streaming over the air as a YouTube television channel. A
television network over in the U.K. called Freesat teamed up with YouTube to make the
whole entire platform available for free streaming over the air just like a normal television
network to everyone who has a Freesat set box top connected to their television. My
assumption is that YouTube will be using their new station on this television network to
really promote a lot of the original channels that they are sponsoring and promoting in
the U.K. and I'm really curious to see how this experiment works because I've always
kind of felt that YouTube works best as a social media platform, not as a content delivery
platform like most people think of when they think of YouTube. And I wonder just how much
more difficult it might be for people to really be social and interact with videos when it's
coming through your television. I mean, we already experience that right now with just
normal Internet streaming YouTube apps on smart televisions. Will that even be more
so the case with streaming it over the air like a normal television channel? So love
to hear what you guys think in the comments below. If you think this is something you
would like to see come to the U.S., and if you are in the U.K., I would love to hear
from you what your experiences are with this and if you get to test it out or anything
let us know. So comment below or leave a video response about that. That would be awesome.
And make sure you guys subscribe if this is your first time hanging out. We do our best
for you guys every week to give you the latest in the online video news that affects you
guys as video creators. We talk a little bit about how that news affects us and then also
on Wednesdays we do a little YouTube tips and stuff and then on Thursdays we do some
Q&A with you guys and we have our next monthly Google Plus On Air Hangout coming up, too.
This is going to be a cool show. We're going to do some things differently than we did
last month. So that's coming up. Subscribe and I'll see you guys later. Bye!
