On Thursday, November 25, last week, the Secretary of State for the Promotion of Equality (SEPI) ,
launched a campaign to highlight violence against women and children at the Baucau District Public Primary School.
In this campaign, village head Afafala Fernandes Ximenes, and Domingas Belo, and the Trilolo village community,
had a debate to inform the Secretary of State for the Promotion of Equality that
women in rural areas were always subjected to domestic violence.
In response to this question, the Secretary of State for the Promotion of Equality (SEPI) Maria Idelta Rodrigues, said that,
violence did not just occur in rural areas, but also within families.
The Secretary of State for the Promotion of Equality (SEPI), also sent a message that Timorese culture did not practise violence,
but Timorese liked to practise family unity in promoting harmony, mutual respect and moving away from violence.
