There is lack of etiquette and regulation for animals in Cuba
and the authorities are silent. The city zones in the
capital of the country are filled with street animals. The situation
has turned into a danger to the public health. Residents
of Havana discuss this in a report from Desde Adentro.
Dogs in Cuba are affectionate animals that brings us happiness and company,
but if we do not care for them correctly, they can lead to a
serious problem for society. There are many people who take their
animals outside and leave their feces on the street.
It is not only the loose ones. The loose animals
do their business wherever
they want, which leads to many diseases in Cuba because the animals
feces emits a lot of bacteria, and a lot of illnesses,
including cholera, but also diseases from any bacteria in the feces.
Whoever has an animal should take care of it in their home
because animals run around here and people do not pick
feces up and because there are stray animals that do
not belong to anyone. There are eight to 10 dogs loose here and nobody picks
them up. Before, yes, they picked them up. Now they do not pick up anything.
The situation is lamentable for
the unfortunate canines found on the street. And what do
you think about the street dogs? They should be picked up.
All of the mangy dogs bring illnesses to the population,
causing need for cuban health care. Also, it should be highlighted, here for all the population. Also, should be highlighted,
that the authorities do not demand that pet owners be responsible
and there are no fines for those who walk their dogs
without measures of protection. It has become common-place to
find cats near restaurants begging
for their part of the menu and very sick dogs looking for
food among deformed waste. We hope that the Cuba ministry of health
and other authorities reflect on this subject and that we can have a
clean Havana to share with our pets.
