In February 1928, the first series- produced truck, Series 1-
-left the assembly line at the Volvo plant in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Series 1 had a four-cylinder, 28 horsepower engine-
-weighed three tons and had a top speed of 50 kilometers per hour.
The official payload limit was set to 1.5 tons-
-but was often exceeded by twice that much.
However - this was not a problem, due to the robustness of Series 1.
500 trucks were manufactured, and the series sold out in six months-
-a year and a half faster than expected.
Series 1 was a true success for Volvo and its founders-
-Gustaf Larson and Assar Gabrielsson-
-and set the bar high in the newly-founded truck industry.
