Hi. This is Eric Sterns with Expert Village. We're talking about fire construction and
safety. Right now we're going to cover what fire provides actually in an emergency situation.
There are basically three main things that fire will provide. It provides heat. This
is applied toward heating you, heating your shelter. It also will heat water and allow
you to cook, to boil water and to purify. To purify tools that you might have, things
that you might need to boil water. It also provides light allowing you to see in the
general area of your campsite where you have your shelter set up. Lastly if you think about
it in an odd sort of way it also provides a degree of comfort. It's a very ancient thing
I think to look at a fire and you'll see once you've started a fire especially under stress
and emergency situation you'll notice a sense of relief, a sense of comfort that you've
accomplished starting fire. It's a part of the process of being able to fight off and
deal with panic and stress.
