What's going on everybody!
Welcome to today's video on
geometry. My name is Jack Jenkins
and this is Academy of One. Today
we're gonna be doing our introduction
video. I am so exited.
In this video, I'm gonna be talking about
what is geometry. Then I'm gonna be
talking about what are the requirements you should have before
you take this geometry course.
Then the unit outline, then the course
outline. [Music]

So, what is geometry?
We'll it always helps to break down the words.
Geo in greek means earth
and metria means measure.
so geometry is the measure of
earthly shapes as I like to put it.
More specifically geometry is the
study of shapes and
figures. Now there's two main
branches of geometry. There is
plane geometry and solid
state geometry. Plane geometry deals
with 2-D shapes while
solid state geometry deals with 3D shapes.
And I'll be talking about solid state geometry in chapter
or in unit 5. And for the first four chapters
will be on plane geometry.

There are two requirements you should meet before you take
this course. You should've already taken
college algebra and you should understand
elementary number theory. And I have my own course on
elementary number theory if you need
to watch that. There are no recommended prerequisites
the only one I have is just have fun cause
this stuff is pretty cool.

First off, we'll have
the introduction. Which is what you are watching
right now. Then we'll have inductive vs.
deductive reasoning. Which is our start of proofs.
The axiomatic system. Then
axioms of geometry. Then we're gonna shift things up
by reviewing the axioms of algebra.
Actually, instead of doing the axioms of
algebra. We are going to be talking about
points, lines and planes. Then we're gonna be talking
about segments and
rays. In video seven
were gonna be discussing angels.
eight will be on making lines and angles with
protractors and such. Number nine will be on writing
our fist proof. And the tenth video will be the
unit conclusion.

This course will be taken in five units.
Each ten videos each. The first thing that will be on the
basics and on proofs. Second unit will be on triangles
third unit will be on quadrilaterals.
Fourth on circles. And fifth
will be on solid state geometry as well as
talk about some other courses of geometry I plan on
making. Including modern geometry
and a bunch of others. And that
it for today's video, I hope you are
as excited as I am to be talking about
college geometry. It is gonna be an
awesome course and I'm glad you guys are taking it with me.
