Modern technology can make our lives so easy.
It's so great and speeds everything up.
But at the same time, you're worrying constantly.
I had just gone through an atrocious divorce.
It was the day before Christmas Eve.
I had been doing all kinds of online shopping.
I was standing in the middle of the biggest toy store in New York City.
It was finally my turn, and when I handed over my card, -
she said: "It's declined."
I knew it had to be a mistake.
I stood there completely dumbfounded.
Close to $10,000 was wiped out of my account.
It was just me, my three kids, and no money.
I left the store in tears.
It was just the most horrible, miserable day of my life.
To feel powerless and violated, -
that somebody got my information.
And not knowing if they have even more information about me.
It was a really scary thing.
The fear just comes over you, -
and there's no logic within it anymore, because you're so worried.
It's the scariest thing.
To be a single mom, and you don't have what's rightfully yours.
It's just gone.
We're at fault, because we're not thinking about it.
We just want the convenience. Everything is so fast, -
and we're constantly checking, researching and shopping wherever we are.
We're not thinking about those risks.
It literally could happen to me today.
Or tomorrow, or the next day. Or it could happen to you.
Everybody's being hacked.
I'm not special, and I'm probably much easier to hack.
Because they don't know about these protections. I'm just a regular person.
I just hope this doesn't happen again.
I don't want to go through this again. It was really hard.
