RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons joined SES Commissioner Murray Kear and Premier Kristina
Keneally in Wollongong to announce the immediate rollout of new equipment for the RFS and SES.
The RFS will receive 5500 automated external defibrillators for brigades and offices across
the state. The machines can be attached to a person who
is suffering sudden cardiac arrest or heart attack and deliver an electric shock to the
heart. MACHINE: Stay calm.
The units talk users through each step. MACHINE: Call for help.
The machines will help not only members of the community but also members of the RFS
who often work in remote locations, some distance away from help.
The defibs are being rolled out across the state in coming weeks, with each brigade to
receive at least one of the machines.
