Here is a demonstration of how you may want to choose to complete Assignment #5, Your
Digital Literacy Talents. First, I’d click on the “View Projects” to enter my project.
In this case, I’m logged in as Zelda Ztudent. Of course I can view anybody else’s project.
I won’t be able to change or comment on their project, but I have access to take a
look at everybody’s talents. But right now, I’m just going to develop my own Wiki site.
So I click on “Go to My WikiSite” and I come to my editing page. So my digital talent
is that I happen to be a podcaster and I happen to be a blogger as well. So I’m going to
go to my particular blog and in this case it’s conspiracy.podbean.com. But my particular
digital talent does not allow for embedding. And so, in this case, what I might want to
do is simply copy my URL, go on back to my WikiSite and just come on over and change
the name of my particular page here. Maybe I’ll call it “My Digital Talent” and
save the name of that page, notice it will change over here on the Nav Bar. Then I can
create a new content block. So, once I click that button, I have all these options for
how I can represent myself. So, for example, in my instance, I only have a web link because
I’m not able to embed anything or I don’t have any files that I want to upload or add
any images or record any audios. So in this case, I’m just going to click on “Web
Links”. I’m going to name my web link “My Blog”. In this case, I might write
a little description about my blog, explain what it is and then finally say “Here’s
a link for you to check it out”. Then I simply paste the URL right there. Either right
click – paste, or control –V. That’s all they really need to do. I can include
it there. I can also include the link down over here as well and simply name it “My
Blog”. Click on “Save” and as you will see, what happens is you immediately create
a content block. Right over here is a description of your particular talent. Here is the link
and here is another representation of the link. As a matter of fact, you might want
to only do one. Either put it in the field so that you can see the little link icon,
or just paste the link in the actual content block itself. Now, what if I want to show
off another talent? Let’s say, for example, I have something I’d like to embed. So for
example, if I go to one of my videos that I have created – I actually created several,
so I might want to log in and go to my video site here and find “My Stuff”. For example,
I might have this cool little video that I want to share with everybody that I had created.
So I would click on it and then I would have access to actually embedding it. So then I
would click on the embed code. I always recommend using the old code, especially if you’re
using YouTube or if you’re using Vimeo. Then, come back over to the page itself and
click on “Embed the Web”. Once you’ve done so, you simply paste that code, click
“Next” and you’ll notice right away it will say, ok, what do you want to call
this? I’ll call it “My Video” and click on “Save”. Once I do so you’ll see the
web video has been embedded into my block. Of course, I can drag this block and drop
it over there if I’d like to. If I want to change the layout of the page, I click
“Manage Page”, click “Page Layout” then choose whichever layout I’m so inclined
to select. I’ll go with two even columns for example. In this case, I’ll grab this
block and drop it in that space. So it’s a little bit better visual representation
of my talents. That’s about it. That’s all you really need to do for this particular
project – Assignment 5, My Digital Literacy Talents. Then we go back to your class, you
simply click on “Pages”, you’re back into your course again.
