Hi, my name is Linda Wooldridge and I'm a home school mom. How do I choose which supplies
I need for my home school? First of all you need the basics, paper and pencil And personally
I recommend you have lots of both. We simply use printer paper, plain white paper by the
reams. We used it with paper and pencils, we used it with the markers, we'd even been
known to use it with the paint, because it's inexpensive. And my kids went through a lot
of it. They used it for everything. In fact we had some beautiful paper airplanes out
of some of our drawings. In addition to that you really don't need that many things, not
like the long school lists that we're used to. I always favored dry erase boards and
in fact my favorite are these small boards that are about eleven by fourteen. If you
can't find a small dry erase board in any of your teacher supply stores, you can make
your own by using bathroom backer board. And then you just get a set of good dry erase
markers and you're ready to go. We also go through a lot of colored paper. It's good
to have some of this on hand because you never know when that creative muse is going to strike.
And if you have a young student you might want to get some of this. This is story paper.
You do a drawing on the top and you write your story on the bottom. One of my favorite
teaching tools is graph paper. If you get the ones with the big cubes like this, your
students can learn to write their letters, one letter per block. It helps them with their
spacing when they're first learning to write. And you can also use it for addition and subtraction.
Remember how hard it was to add up your numbers when you were subtracting? You want to make
sure that you have the ones under the ones and the tens under the tens column. And this
is an easy way to help them figure out where everything belongs. As you can see you really
don't need all that much. You get the books that you choose to use and a few paper products,
few art supplies and you're ready to home school. I'm Linda Wooldridge, have a great
home schooling day.
