Hi, I'm Dr. Charles Grimes, and I'm speaking on behalf of Expert Village about preparing
for the business end of an audition and preparing for callbacks. As an actor you probably are
very aware of how you stand on stage, how you move. But you may be trapped in a social
circumstance in which you're standing on a big stage, people in the dark are talking
to you and you're going to answer their questions and chat with them. Just practice for yourself
standing still, standing straight up, not leaning one side or the other, not flexing
one knee or the other, but stand stock still, which shows power and strength and confidence,
and talk from there. In our social life, especially as Americans, we slouch all the time. You
can't afford to do that. You don't have to be ramrod straight like you're in the army.
Just be confident and stand up straight. If you're sitting down and talking to them, be
aware of any mannerisms that you have in terms of how you sit and how you look when you sit.
Sit up straight. Don't have any nervous mannerisms such as moving your foot or tapping your hands.
All that is going to cause you to lose all the good impressions that were brought on
the director. So be ready to exist in a stressful situation either standing or sitting, controlling
your body and looking like someone who knows how to stand and knows how to sit.
