Once upon a time, in a fairytale land very much like this one, was a man with a dream to get solar power!
I'm a fairly heavy user of electricity unfortunately because I run a small business from home.
Well I do a picture framing business, I started it over 15 years ago, so I've been in a semi-retired
mode for 13 years, which has been very good for me because I enjoy the business of picture
framing. Meeting people, looking at the varied art that they bring to me to frame and I enjoy
assisting people with their presentations.
So considering the way electricity bills have been rising I felt that the time was right
to be looking more seriously at the small electric generation plants that you can put
on your roof.
The government is providing a generous support for these systems. The utility people seem
to like them because they provide extra power during periods of peak loading.
My account in the winter time is around $1300. In the spring when there's not much heating
or cooling, you might get away with $900 but on average it's $1100 four times a year!
Yes, I was was initially looking at a 5kw system which would be only capable of providing
half my requirements. Michael persuaded me that the marginal cost of the additional units
may be worth it in my case and I seriously looked at the 10kw system.
And found pump electricity back into the system and be paid for it. If you're prepared to
outlay an amount of money, a considerable amount of money, for a considerable amount
of savings, you will get that money back in 5 years!
After that, for a period of 20 years, because the panels are guaranteed for 25 years . . . for
a period of 20 years, you'll have free electricity.
I would strongly recommend that people don't under install. I could be over installing,
I may be perhaps providing myself with more capacity than I need in the event that some
of my family leave home . . . my bills could come down.
But with the advent of electric cars and future increases in electricity usage, chances are
I'll always need it.
The results that I've seen so far in the first month and a half of operation, indicate that
in the summer time I can use my air-conditioner without any fears . . . I can turn on as many
lights as I like without any fear of excessive bills.
Yes, I'm more than happy with my decision!
