OK, so we've got some new information from the county about the probable case. explain to me what they told us.
Well we received word today from the county public health department that our student who was initially classified as having a probable case of H1N1, or Swine Flu, has been confirmed by the CDC to actually have H1N1 infection.
And what does that mean for the campus and the campus community?
Well frankly, we've taken measures over the last week to reduce exposure of the infected student to the campus.
And, so, it doesn't really mean much additional to what we've already done on this campus.
We've already contacted the close contacts
of our student. And those people have already received preventative medication through Student Health Services.
And, just to confirm, no other cases have been reported here on campus. Correct?
No. We've had no other cases of H1N1 infection on campus.
We have had a couple of other surveillance swabs come back negative, not showing any evidence of infection from two other students.
And then, we did hear, yesterday, that the Children's Center was closed because there was a higher number of students than normal with flu symptoms. Can you update us on that, too?
We had concern because we received some reports of a higher number, higher than normal number of students in the campus children's center having illnesses.
Supposedly with fever. We worked with the county health department. Supposedly their investigators talked to a number of these families.
In addition, they contacted staff members who had been reporting illness. The county then went out and, actually, performed swabs on three representative children...actually, two representative children and one staff member.
And ran those tests. And this morning, we were informed that all those tests were negative.
Do we know if they willl be testing any more? will they be opening up the Children's Center this week?
At this point, we're working with the campus administration, with advice from the county health department, as far as whether it is appropriate to reopen the facility.
