It is a trend now, to have the bathtub floating in the middle of space, disassociated from
walls. The built in bathtub is sort of...we're still doing them but it's very infrequent.
We're doing standalone soaker tubs, the pedestal style of faucets. And they're becoming kind
of more of a furniture sculpture piece in the bathroom. As opposed to being a built-in
kind of element or fixture in the bathroom.
I think it is all about textures and finishes and finding those beautiful elements that
really make a space feel special. So as far as tile work or surfaces, marbles look spectacular
and again they play beautifully against gloss white.
There is always that old trend of bianco carrara marble and the white. You can work with those
materials because if you are doing them in a very minimalist, modern way I think they're
more exciting than the traditional application. And I think they're really the most exciting
thing that's happening in kitchens and baths is the return to using brass and gold for
fixtures and hardware. It's a different type of finish, it's brushed, it's softer and I
really like what that adds. I like contrasting metals in bathrooms and kitchens, I think
it goes back to an old world or parisian sensibility.
