Hi there guys, my name is Marc Ashley from flippmate.com.
Today I'm going to show you how to create a dazzling website step by step for absolutely
free. You basically get to look right over my shoulder
and make this amazing, dazzling website you can see on the right hand side here.
It is a simple and fast tutorial anyone can follow.
If you think you couldn't do it, think again because you CAN do it and I KNOW you can.
We're going to be using the same technology as the big companies do.
I'm going to be saving you thousands on dollars but giving you the same professional look.
It will also work on ALL mobile devices. So that you will be online within hours, not
weeks.
In the next hour you are going to learn easily how to:
Get a domain name. How to get hosting with a coupon to save even
more. To install Wordpress which is a system that
allows you to change things easily just like in word.
To add and delete pages as you wish. And also to change the homepage and become
a rockstar!
I'm a web-designer so what I'm about to show you is what I do for a living.
If you have any problems, comment below.
Ok, let's start.
So this is what our kick-*** website is going to look like,
and yours is going to look just as good. Remember it's responsive so it's going to
work on all mobile devices. It's got this beautiful icons that when we
scroll over, they enlarge, which is pretty cool.
We've got this nice full page slider at the top.
And I'm also going to show you how to put these widgets on the side just like this calendar
here. I'm going to show you how to add these categories.
And I'm also going to show you how to add recent posts to the side.
On top of that I'm going to show you how to embed your own YouTube videos.
And how to install a simple contact form so your customers can get a hold of you.
Ok, Step 1: Hosting and Domain. A domain is like a piece of land that you
own, you can think of it like that, like a street address in a way.
Hosting is what allows you to build on it. It's just one of the things you can't get
past if you want to have a website. You're going to have to have both of these.
So how do you know which hosting company is good?
How do you know if you can trust them or not? Well, I've been around for 15 years, so I
trust Hostgator. I've tried many over those 15 years and had
problems with most of them. These guys have always been there 24/7 with
excellent support. You're going to need it if anything goes wrong.
Not only that, they're cheap AND I have a coupon to save you even more money.
My aim is to save you hundreds if not thousands with this course that is absolutely FREE.
Ok, so let's go over to www.hostgator.com Once in Hostgator, if we look at the very
first menu item, it says 'web hosting'. So if we click on 'web hosting' we can see
all of the different web hosting plans that they have.
The first plan and the cheapest plan would be the 'hatchling' plan.
I wouldn't recommend that personally because it's just for a single domain.
A single domain basically means that you can host only one domain name on that.
So for example that would be just yourdomain.com and you wouldn't be able to host any other
domain name on there. The baby plan however, you can host unlimited
domains. The advantage to this is, for example, you've
got a friend, neighbour, your mother, your father or a child in the family - you can
host basically as many domains as you want on that plan.
Plus you can also, if you want to have multiple websites, like me, I have over 60 websites
going right now on the baby plan. I can add another 50, I can add another 100.
It basically makes no difference whatsoever, I have unlimited domains, unlimited disk space
and unlimited bandwidth, so that's really really cool.
So just so we can see the difference, I'm going to show it to you. So for example, the
'monthly' plan for a single domain on the 'hatchling' plan would cost you $7.16 per
month. With the 'baby' plan, the monthly plan costs $7.96, which as you can see is an 80
cent difference. So really a no-brainer, this is the plan you
need. Click on 'baby' plan.
I am going to register a new domain so if you need a new domain as well leave it how
it is. Type in your domain in here.
If you already own a domain somewhere else, you click on 'I already own this domain',
write in your domain and you go through it. It's all very easy to understand.
I'm going to go through it and register a new domain.
Today I'm going to make my new domain and I'm going to call it 'createawebsite'.
So, 'createawebsite.com' is not available, but I see here underneath that 'createawebsite.org'
is available. So I can either click here on the side or
I can change it here on the top to '.org'. Then I can see: 'congratulations, createawebsite.org
is available and has been added to your cart'. Ok, so I just scroll down a little bit.
I can see here that I have the 'baby' package clicked which is perfect, that's exactly what
I want. I have one month at $7.96 per month (20% off).
Or, if we do what's more exciting and use my special affiliate code which I'm going
to give to you in a second, we can get $10 off the first month, which is really cool
because it basically means you're only paying for the domain name and the hosting is free
for 1 month. That means we can get set up for under $15.
The next part you're going to want to fill out is the username.
These are the things that you're going to have to worry about e.g.: it must start with
a letter. So that means don't use any numbers.
Must be 2-8 characters long so I think that's pretty self-explanatory and pretty easy to
understand. Same with the security pin: 4-8 characters
long and can only contain numbers. I recommend not to use something like your
birthday or something because that's too easy for people who know you to guess it.
Underneath that is your billing information. You're going to need to fill this out because
this is who it's going to be registered to. For example if this website is not for you
but it's for someone else, don't forget to fill out their email address, first name,
etc. With either credit card or Paypal, personally
I use Paypal, but credit card is just the same.
Then I scroll down to 'hosting addons'. The hosting add ons are basically add ons
that the website wants you to take. I don't click on them, it's extra money and
I want to get you up and running with the cheapest website.
I don't use them on my websites either and I have business websites, I don't think I
need them. If we go down here, it's going to have the
box 'have a coupon code?'. Right now there's 'snappy' in there which
will give you 20%. I'm going to give you a different one. Mine is 'flippmate25'.
And that, when we validate it, we're going to be set up for $12.96. So that means you're
going to get your domain name and you're going to get 1 month of hosting for just $12.96.
That's as much as this is going to cost today and you're going to have a great looking dazzling
website within the next hour to hour and a half.
Once you've got all of that filled out, don't forget to click on 'I have read and agree
to the terms and conditions of use'. Then click on 'create account'.
So, once you've clicked on 'pay now', if you're paying with Paypal, you can either click on
'pay now' or 'subscribe'. Subscribe means that it get's booked off automatically every
month, but you can click Pay Now. Then it's going to take you to your Paypal
page where you log in to complete your order. Put your Paypal password in there.
Once you've logged in it's going to authenticate your Paypal password and then you get to pay.
My order is complete, so now I have the 'baby' plan and it's going to return me to the website.
If it doesn't, don't worry, you can click on that link which will return me back to
my website. Now it says 'thank you for your order'.
It shouldn't take too long, it should only take a couple of minutes but then you should
receive an email with your order from 'hostgator.com'. I've already got mine, I've got shared baby
plan and it's given me the link to my control panel with my username and my password.
You can just click on the link on yours. I'm going to copy it because I'm using Chrome
today and not my standard browser which is Firefox.
I'm going to log in to cPanel which my credentials, so my username and my password. Just copy
and paste them. Now I can log in.
So, I click these ads away. No thanks, I don't need any extra benefits.
So here you go in the Hostgator control panel. There's going to be a little box that pops
up every time saying 'welcome new user'. I actually usually click on this and say "don't
show this again". This is fine, you can click that away, you don't really need it.
Now this may look a little bit overwhelming and confusing, but it's not. These are just
added features in case you ever want to use them.
They're not really that difficult. What we're going to do today, which is get
our Wordpress website set up, the only thing we need to worry about is scrolling down to
'software services'. We want to click on something called 'quick
install' which is here. So if I click on it it's going to take me
to a pop-up page.
On that pop-up page I can install Wordpress which is just one single click, which is pretty
crazy. Quick install, as you can see on the left
had side, I've got all of the different software you can install like 'CMS' software, which
means 'Content Management System'. That's what we're going to be installing today.
Wordpress is a content management system, so we're going to go down to here and we're
going to click on 'Wordpress' and then it's going to ask us to continue.
Click on 'continue'. This would be the drop-down where all of your
different domains are. We're on a different account today that I set up for you guys.
My website is called 'createawebsite.org'. Then you put in the admin email. My admin
email would be marc@flippmate.com. Then my blog title which would be 'create
a website'. Then you put in an admin username for example
'admin'. Then a first name and a last name.
It is basically that easy. That's how difficult it is to install your Wordpress website.
But before we click on here, we're going to have to wait a little bit because this is
not going to be ready. It usually takes up to 4 hours for Hostgator
to connect your URL (domain name) to your web hosting because you have to remember your
domain name has to be registered first of all and it has to go through their system,
so that's actually going to take you a couple of hours.
I'm going to stop this video for now, but I'm going to come straight back to it as soon
as it's been connected. Like I said, it will take between 2 and 4
hours. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer, but
in the usual timeframe, it takes 2-4 hours. Then I can come back and click directly on
to my link here. See you in a little bit.
Now that we've got out Wordpress installed, this is what it's going to look like basically.
It might look a little bit different. This is an older version.
I've done this on purpose because we can see what work we've got to do to update it to
a newer version of Wordpress. To log into the backend of your website, you
are going to have to type in the URL your domain name which is 'www.yourdomainname.com'
or whichever domain name you chose. Then you're going to need '/' and 'wp-admin'.
This is going to take us to the login page. Then you put in your admin details and your
password which you got when you installed the blog with the one-click installer.
So if you need an update, for example this needs an update, just click on 'please update
older version'. This is in case you have to update to an older
version yourself. The update usually doesn't take long.
Usually when you do the one-click installer you've always got the latest version, but
in case there's an update that's been made since I made this video.
That's the reason why I showed you this way, click on the update, update it first, very
important. If you were to click on your blog now, this
is basically what you see. So see look we've got our first post called
'Hello world!' and we have 2 buttons. But of course, we want to change all of this
now and we want to make it look like our dazzling website that looks really really cool.
So, in order to get this look, what we have to do is click back on your blog.
Now before we start we're going to change a few things in the settings.
For example, we click on 'settings' and go down to 'permalinks' and you click on 'post
name' and click 'save'. Now the reason why we're doing post name is
because when your page saves a page or a post that you are making, it saves it with the
name of that post. Now it's saving it with 'p=123' which isn't
very search machine friendly, so we want to change that to 'post name' and click 'save'.
That means that any page we make is going to have a nice URL at the top.
The next thing we want to do is change the appearance because we want to add this thing
that we've got here. This theme is completely free, so there's
no need to pay for anything. I'm going to log into this as well quickly
so I can show you how this works and what it looks like.
Basically the theme that we have installed is called 'customizr'.
If we go back here and back on my newly installed Wordpress and we click on 'installed things',
all war have to do now is typer in 'customizr'. The 'customizr' is the theme now in front
of you. All you have to do is click on 'install now'.
It starts to download, takes a couple of seconds, then I can activate it straight away.
Ok, so I've got my 'customizr' and this is like a live edit mode.
So what we can do now, for example, is change the skin colour.
We can see exactly straight away what it's going to look like, it changes it straight
away. So you can basically choose out of all these
different colours, what colour you would like your blog to be.
So for this purpose, I'm going to use 'black' - I like standard colours - and I can see
here my standard page. Then we have 'site title and tagline'.
In here we have the title. Mine for example is going to be 'Save Ice
Cream Cones' - this is just my example. Underneath that we have the tagline.
The tagline shows up here on the very right hand side of the page.
So you might want to fill that out because otherwise it's going to say 'just another
Wordpress site'. So if I have a look at what I wrote over here,
I can basically copy that: 'I Love Ice Cream Cones With Sprinkles'.
You can put anything you want, I'm just making a website about ice cream cones which sprinkles
for an example obviously. Then the next one we have is 'logo upload'.
If you don't have a logo upload that's ok, because by default it just gives you this
big logo-esque sign here. But if you have a logo to upload, you can
upload it. I have a logo pre-made, so I can upload my
logo to the website. So now we've got 'front page' 'choose content
and layout'. Your front page displays your latest posts
or a static page. I actually want it to display my latest posts
which is kinda like blog style things, which is what I want to do.
What I'm going to do first is save it and close it. We're actually going to add some
pages right now.
So if I got to 'all pages', I will see I have a sample page.
The sample page we can trash right now because we don't need it.
So what we're going to do, we're going to add a new page.
And the new page, we're going to give a name. Let's look at what I've called mine here.
This is what I've basically made earlier. So on the new page, the first page I'm going
to do is called 'Italy's finest Ice Cream'. I love ice cream, I live in Italy.
I'm English but I live in Italy, right on the lake.
I go eat ice cream every day and I like my ice cream cones with sprinkles on them, so
that's why I decided to make this funny page if you will.
So, "Italy's finest Ice Cream" is what I'm going to give it as a title.
The text basically you can copy straight out of any text you have ready.
This runs more or less the same as word or anything like that. You can go ahead and type
in whatever you want. Or if you've got text already made you just
need to copy it and paste it like I just have and your text is in there.
So, you can add your spaces in-between your lines, your line breaks, whatever you want.
It's fairly easy, there's nothing to it, it's really easy.
I want to put a picture here, so what I want to actually do is I'm going to click right
in front of the first letter so that it blinks. Then I'm going to click on 'add media'.
So to add a picture I just click on 'select files'.
My first file that I'm going to do with ice cream.
As you can see, I've even called my pictures the names they should be regarding the photos.
I've called it 'cookiesandcreamgelato'. I've now uploaded my cookies and cream, I've
checked that it's on full sized and I'm going to insert it into the page.
As you can see now, the text has been knocked down to the side here.
I want to click on that picture so that it turns blue and I want to align it left, so
I click here 'align left'. And now my text comes up to the top.
I'm going to click on this picture again and then I'm going to click on this 'unlink' because
right now, it's just linking to that picture by itself.
I've just taken that link away, clicked on it, pressed that so now that link is actually
gone. So now I have my text and my picture in there
already. I want to make this pretty cool looking round
effect here. So in order to do that, what I have to do
is come down here to the right hand side and click on 'set featured image'.
So I click on 'set featured image' and again I click my ice cream photo and I go down to
the right and click 'set featured image'. As you can see, my featured image appears
here on the right and I can click 'publish'. The other thing I also do is change the default
layout before I click 'publish'. I want my sidebar to actually show up on the
right hand side, so I change this here because by default it's on the left hand side so I
am going to change it to the right hand side. I prefer to have it on the right.
Then I click 'publish'.
We already have our first page, so if you were to click on 'view page' we can actually
already see our first page right there - that's how fast this went.
I'm going to click the top left hand corner again on the title.
I'm going to go to pages again and I'm going to add another page.
I'm going to cheat, I am going to look and see what my pages are again.
I've already got 'Italy's Finest Ice Cream', so now for example I want 'Sprinkled Cones'.
I am going to copy my text again. You can either write yours directly in here
or you can copy and paste it from Word - there is no difference.
I'm going to click before the first letter and I'm going to click 'Add Media'.
This time I'm going to upload another file, so click on 'Upload' up here.
Then I click on 'Select File' and I want to click on my picture that I would like to have
in this post. As you can see, that's the picture I want
and I click 'Insert into page'. Again I click on the picture; it turns blue;
I click align left; the text goes up to the to; I click on it one more time; It goes blue
again; I unlink that picture. Then I click on 'Publish'.
While this is waiting to publish, I actually want my default layout to change to the right
side bar and I also want to set my featured image to one with the ice cream cones.
So, I click on the ice cream cones and go back to the right and click 'Set Featured
Image'. I press 'Update' one more time.
So on our other page we have a video embedded. When we actually look at the page I have a
video embedded at the bottom. That's what I would like to show you how to
do here. In order to do that I installed some plugins.
If you click on 'Plugins', this is the name of the plugin I used: the 'Vixy YouTube Embedded'.
If we got to our page that we're working on and we click on 'Plugins, 'Add New', I type
in this box 'Vixy YouTube Embedded'. It's actually called 'Vixy YouTube Embedded
and Download'. Then I click 'Search for Plugins' and it should
find it. I click 'Install Now' and it's going to ask
me if I'm sure I want to install the plugin. I click 'Ok'.
Then I have to click 'Activate Plugin' once it's installed.
In order to use a video - Here it says 'YouTube'. Ok, this is the plugin itself.
We don't need to click on anything there, there are the options but there's not really
anything to change in there. If you do know a little bit you can go in
there and have a little look. But, I'm going to show you how to do a basic
setup so there's nothing really that needs to be changed, it's set up perfectly anyway.
So if we go back to 'All Pages'. Here we have a look at my titles.
My title was 'Sprinkled Cones'. So I come back here, put in the title 'Sprinkled
Cones'. We call this 'sprinkled_cones'.
You won't need to do this, this is all done automatically.
The reason why I just had to change it is because it was called 'untitled' which is
fine, you don't lose anything , it stays there the same.
Now you can see in my menu I have this little 'YouTube Embed'.
I go down here to my text; I click on 'enter'; I click on the 'YouTube Embed'.
It's put in this little snippet - this is called a snippet - and it says Insert
url or video ID here. That's just basically a command to put in
YouTube and then end the code for YouTube. All we need to do now is sick in our URL or
ID here. So I already have the ID from this video.
If you go to YouTube there is also a little sign underneath the video that says 'embed'.
Just copy that code and stick it in between these two commands or snippets and then that's
it, that's basically all you have to do. Then you just click 'Update'.
So, we've got two new pages so what we're going to do now is add the contact page.
So I go back to 'Plugins', 'Add New'. We're going to write 'Contact Form 7'.
Click 'Search Plugins'. You will see 'Contact Form 7' comes in at
the top. Click 'Install Now' click 'Ok' when the warning
page comes up. It's unloading the package and we simply have
to click on 'Activate Plugin' and that's all we have to do.
We will see in our menu on the left had side, our 'Contact' has now been placed underneath
'Comments', So we click on 'Contact'.
We have a regular contact form set up here which you can look at.
That's what the text looks like. It says 'Your Name'; 'Your email'; 'Subject';
'Your Message'; 'Submit'. You can change any of this if you want to,
this is fine for a regular contact form, nothing really needs to be changed there.
All you have to do is click in the brown area and mark the code, click 'copy' either with
a right mouse click, click 'copy', click 'save' on the right hand side.
If we go to pages, 'add new' we can add a new page, this page we will call 'contact'.
I will click in our editor and I just paste when I copied the short code before.
I put my layout to the right hand side of the bar - 'Right side bar' - and I press 'Publish'.
That's how fast a contact page works. If we were too look at the page, we already
have a contact form. Right now it says 'edit page' here because
we are logged in as an admin. Anyone else looking at this page could not
see this button, they won't see it so you don't need to worry about them seeing a button
where it says 'edit page'.
The next thing we want to do is add another page.
So, I click on 'Pages', 'Add New'. This time I'm going to go over to the other
one that's already finished and have a look at what I haven't used.
I'm going to use the 'Original Slushed Ice'. So I'm going to call my page 'Original Slushed
Ice'. Obviously you can call your page what you
want. I'm going to copy my text again, you can do
the same thing, just copy it from your Word program or whichever program you use to write.
Or you can write directly into this box. I've written my stuff in here, I want to 'Set
Featured Image', so I go to upload files and look for a little photo I made earlier.
I let it upload, I click on the right hand side at the bottom, 'Set Featured Image'.
I can see it here on the right hand side at the bottom.
If I want to again, I can click in the box before the first word.
I can click 'Add Media' and I can add my little Slushed Ice Cup.
Again I click on the photo, I click 'align left' in the menu.
I click on the photo one more time and I click 'Unlink', then I click 'Publish'.
Then I check that this had the 'Right side bar' and click 'update' again.
Now if we look at 'All Pages' we should have 4 pages now.
We have our contact form and we have 3 pages. You can add as many pages as you want, so
if you need a website with 30 pages, you can add 30 pages, it really makes no difference
whatsoever.
Now what we want to do is we want to make this menu, because if we look at it right
now it's not looking like my other one you know?
This is what we want it to look like, it's got a nice menu at the top with the different
pages on there in the right order. So we want to make this exact same look.
Right now it looks like this, it doesn't look very nice.
What's we're going to do is add a menu now. So we clock on our title and we go down to
'Appearance' and we click on 'Menus'. There's a box at the top here and it says
'Menu Name'. We're going to call this the 'Top Menu'.
You can call it whatever you want, but we're going to call it the 'Top Menu'.
Now once you've clicked on 'Create Menu you will see that the options on the left hand
side suddenly show up and we can start adding to this top menu here in the middle.
In order to do that, if we click on - for example - "Italy's Finest Ice Cream", 'Add
to Menu', you will see that "Italy's Finest Ice Cream" is added to the menu.
I can click on as many of these as I want to, all of them or just some of them.
Then they all go in this box. Once they're in this box it's basically drag
and drop. So if I want 'contacts' to go to the back,
I'm going to click on 'Contacts' and drag it down to the very last space.
If you notice, there's two places it can go: A little bit inset and then to the left.
You want yours to go to the left. If you do anything in inset, it's like a sub-menu.
So if I were to have t-shirts and I would have 'red t-shirt'; blue t-shirt'; 'white
t-shirt'; If I had different web pages that were called 'red t-shirts' etc, I could put
these set inwards and they would all show underneath 't-shirts' for example.
But in this situation we want everything to be on the left hand side.
This means that they all have their own menu name.
We can also go in here and change the menu name, for example this one says "Italy's Finest
Ice Cream', we can just call this 'Ice Cream'. 'Sprinkle Cones' is nice and short as well
as 'Original Slushed Ice'. If we just click on 'save'.
If you notice on my other one I have an extra button called 'home' which always takes me
back to the homepage, to the start page. Here we don't actually have that option because
we don't have a page called 'home'. But that's ok because we can make that very
easily by simply using the custom link box. In order to make a menu item with 'home',
you simply click on 'label' and write "home". For the URL you write your domain name.
Right now because I'm doing this on a different domain I would call this "white-wine.us/blankwp".
Yours would look a little bit different, yours would say "http://yourdomain.com", that's
it. All you have to do then is click on 'Add to
Menu'. One more last thing that we have to do and
that is, on the box above it says 'Theme Locations'. So we want to place our main menu - our top
menu - we want to place it somewhere. Our main menu that we're using is going to
be 'Top Menu'. So all you have to do is click on there, there's
only going to be one option. Click on it and then click 'Save'.
Once we've saved that, we click 'Save Menu' and there we have it.
So now when we go to our website we should have at the top, our different menu items.
And if we actually click on these, we will actually see our different pages already.
There's our video that we embedded and here's the pictures and here is our contact form.
I noticed one thing here, that 'Home' is to the right.
If home is to the right, it's set up wrong so we need to go back to 'Appearance', 'Menus'.
And make sure our 'Home', by clicking on it pushing it upwards to the very top, is sitting
right there at the very top. Now, when I click 'Save Menu' and click again
on the top here, I will see my 'Home' is at the front so I have everything where I need
it. So now we have our logo set up, we have our
menu items set up, we even have our pages set up.
Now all we need to do is make this front page look awesome with this nice slider and nice
web 2.0 features here.
Once again we click on the name of your blog on the left hand side at the top.
Now we want to go to 'Media', 'Add New'. We want to select some files that we want
to use for our slider. I have, for example, 2: 'Ice Cream Cones'
which I select and upload, and I have a second one.
But first of all I'm going to wait for this to upload. Once it's uploaded we want to click
on 'Edit'. There you can see our nice banner.
I just took a regular photo, I didn't even do anything with it, I just took a regular
photo and made the size of it 1902x503 pixels. You can basically do that in any free graphical
program. There's loads of them, gimp etc.
You can also do it online, it's really easy to do.
I'll show you in another video if anyone needs help, it's really easy.
Now we have our picture in here, now all we have to do is scroll down to the bottom where
it says 'Slider Options' and we click on the slider options because we want to create a
slider option. We have a title text, so I'm going to call
it 'Save Ice Cream Cones'. Then I'm going to give it a description which
again I'm going to steal from here. You can write whatever you wish obviously,
I'm just going to copy and paste that. "Eating an ice cream without sprinkles is
really cruel. We believe that every ice cream cone deserves sprinkles of bright colours
or nuts. Change the way you eat ice cream forever and join the cause."
Ok, so underneath that we have the option 'Title and Text Colour'.
We just need to click on 'Select Colour'. You can move your mouse over the colour box
to get the colour you want. I want a white, so I'm just going to go up
to the top. I just click to the side and it's gone.
Underneath that I have something that says 'Button Text' - 80 characters maximum length.
I'm just going to write "Save sprinkles, eat more ice cream".
Now I can choose to link this straight to a page or a post, so I would like to link
this to 'Sprinkled Cones'. Then underneath that it's going to say "You
haven't created any slider yet. Write a name and click on the button to add your first
slider". I'm going to write my first slider name: I'm
going to call it "Ice Cream Cones". You can call it whatever you want, you can
call it "slider", it doesn't make any difference, just click on 'Add Slider'.
So there you can see we have our image that is going to be shown on the front page.
Then we go back up to the top and we click 'Add New'.
Again we click on 'Select Files', we look for our second slider image.
We basically again, like we did before, click on 'Edit'.
We see our nice slider; we scroll down; we go to 'Slider Options'; we click on the button;
we scroll down again; then we have our title, I'm going to call this one "Italian Ice Cream".
Below that we're going to put in our description, again I'm going to go over and steal the description
that I already have pre-made. Again this could be your text you have in
Wordpress, or you can write straight into this box.
I'm just copying and pasting to save time, I'm sure you don't want to watch me write
about ice cream cones. Again I click on 'Title and Text Colour',
I move my slider to the top left, which is going to give me a white text, you can use
whichever you want. Then I'm going to write in my button text
"Save sprinkles and eat more ice". I can link this one now to "Italy's Finest
Ice Cream" page and now I can select a slider because I made one with the last picture,
and that slider remember we called it "Ice Cream Cones".
So I choose "Ice Cream Cones" then I click on 'Add to Slider'.
There you see if we scroll down further we have now got two sliders.
Again, you can add as many sliders as you want, the average is, say, 2-4, but if you
want to put 6 or even more, you are welcome to do.
Let's scroll all the way to the top and have a quick look.
Before we have a quick look, let's scroll over to the right and click 'Update' just
to be on the safe side. Then we're going to click on your title at
the left hand side at the top which again will just be your name.
Then when we are here I'm going to click on this right menu that says 'Customiz it' and in the menu that comes up on the left
I scroll down to 'Front Page' and then to 'Slider Options' which is here.
It says 'Select Front Page Slider'. I have the demo slider or I have the 'Ice
Cream Cones' which I recently made. I change it to 'Ice Cream Cones' and as you
can see, we've got our beautiful 'Ice Cream Cones' slider or whatever you're going to
be using, you're going to be seeing your fantastic pictures in there.
Staying in this menu, we want to use these nice three icon buttons to make it look really
cool. We've got our three pages, so we're going
to go to the menu again on the left and go to 'Featured Page Options'.
It's going to be on 'Enable' by default and images are going to be clicked as well.
So now we want 'Home Featured Page 1', so then we can actually choose our page.
For example, for the first one we're going to use 'Sprinkled Cones' because the site
is about sprinkled cones. So there you can see our sprinkled cone already,
it's a live editor which is fantastic. Our Sprinkled Cone is there and you can also
see the beginning of the text and then a 'Read More' button underneath.
This is really really cool and really easy to do.
You don't need a web designer that will tell you that this will cost hundreds or a few
thousand dollars, because as you can see, this is not taking very long at all.
Now we're going to do the second one here, the second featured page.
So we click on the left hand side where it says 'Home Featured Page Two'.
We search for the next page we're going to use and I'm going to use "Italy's Finest Ice
Cream'. And you will see in the middle, our Italy's
Finest Ice Cream has shown up already, looking really cool.
So we've got that in there already, and for the third one I'm going to click on 'Original
Slushed Ice'. Now I have all 3 in, it was that simple people!
It was that simple, there was nothing else to do.
Incredible, and now we've got it. We're not ready yet, we've got a couple more
things to do. We got to the top and click 'Save and Publish',
then we click 'Close'.
Now we click on the website title at the top - we're going to have a quick look again.
ow we have our nice slider, we have our awesome buttons underneath, but underneath that we
see it says "Hello World". We don't really want that because it is a
default post from Wordpress. What we actually want to do is, we want to
change that so we go up to the top and click on our title.
We come down to 'Settings', then in settings we come down to 'Reading'.
On 'Reading' we have 'Your Latest Posts', which is what it should be, so we click on
'Save Changes'. Then we need to write some posts.
A post is like a Blog, let me explain first; we have 'Pages' and we have 'Posts'.
A 'Page', ('All Pages'), a page is what we've just made and a post can be gathered and all
put on one page. We're going to use, for example, the front
page to show all of our posts, at least 10 at a time.
We're going to go to 'All Posts' and as you can see, we have our 'Hello World' which we
saw in the preview. We don't want 'Hello World' so we're going
to trash that quickly, then we're going to add some new ones.
Just click 'Add New' either at the top or in the side where it says 'Add New'.
So we give our post a title, again I have my pre-made titles here.
You're going to have yours either in Wordpress or you are going to write them as you make
your website. I'm just going to copy my things here.
I'm going to give it my title, my title is "Lose 40lbs by eating Ice Cream!", that sounds
great, I want to do that. Then in this box here we can add our text,
again I'm going to go over and copy it. You do the same in your program, Word or OpenOffice.
Again you want a nice little picture here on the left hand side, so I click in front
of the 'A'; I click 'Add Media'; I choose a picture; 'Insert into post' on the right
hand side. I have my picture and just like we did before,
click on my picture; It goes blue; I click 'Align Left'.
You can see the text go to the top and it wraps around the picture itself.
I come down to the right, now a post can have Categories and if it doesn't have a category
it automatically goes to 'Uncategorised'. We want to give this a category, this post
is about Ice Cream so we're going to call this category "Ice Cream".
'Add New Category'. And we're going to come down here and we're
going to set our featured image to the featured image with the cone.
So as you can see, here is our featured image. Now we scull to the top, now I want to put
my sidebar to the right, that's why I've changed that to 'Right Sidebar' and I click 'Publish'.
Let's have a look at our post - this is what our post is going to look like.
The great thing about a post is that a user can leave a comment, you can also turn that
off, but if you want to leave that on you can create a comment which is great stuff.
So again, click on 'Posts', 'Add New', I'm going to look for another post.
I'm going to come over here again to my other website that's pre-made.
I'm going to steal this title here just to save some time, I'm going to add it here.
Again I'm going to go over, steal some text, add it in my box.
I can click on the beginning then 'Add Media'. This time I'm going to throw in my ice creams,
so I'm going to put in my ice cream picture, 'Insert Into Post'.
Now I click on the Ice Cream; click 'Align Left', click on the ice cream again; take
the link away by clicking on this little chain that's broken.
That means that the link is no long there. Now I go along here, go to 'Layout Options';
'Right Sidebar' - I want my sidebar on the right.
I scroll down and add a new category. I'm going to call it "Ice Cream Cones", you
can obviously call it whatever you want to. You can also add as many categories as you
desire. Then come down and I'm going to set my featured
image. The reason why I'm setting my featured image
as well, just so you know, is that is what makes this nice round effect on the front
page. So if I click on featured image, click on
the image I want, down to the right at the bottom - 'Set Featured Image'.
I go to the top, I click 'Publish', we wait for it to publish.
Now it's published we can click on your title. If we scroll down, we see these amazing effects
when we roll over our posts. Then if you click on them then you can see
your posts. Now that's on the first page.
Now that looks pretty, pretty, pretty sweet. So, looking good, that is looking very good.
Right now we've added a logo; you don't have to add a logo, but you can add a logo if you
want to. We've made a menu and ordered the items in
our menu. We've even renamed some of the title descriptions
to shorten them down a little bit. We've added sliders to our header on the start
page. We've featured 3 of our favourite articles
or pages. Our articles are also now showing up on the
first page underneath. So it's looking really really nice.
That's basically it.
The only other thing you can do, as an added extra, is if you go back in to the admin and
then if we click on 'Customiz it' at the top. If we scroll down on the left to 'Social Links',
this is where you can add your social links. You have to sign up to these places first,
so for example, if you have an account on Twitter you can just copy and paste your Twitter
profile URL or your Facebook profile URL. As you can see, all the other website URLs
are here.
That's basically it, once you've got that you have your website, it's there.
So if we want to see what it looks like without all this, we got to the very right hand side
and click 'Log Out', we've now logged out. Underneath 'Lost Password' it says "Back To…"
and then it will be your website. There you go without this menu bar at the
top. Now we see our menu, we have our posts and
if I click on one of these, now you can see that little 'edit' box is gone.
We have our recent posts, we have our archives, our categories and all the things we need.
So this is really really really cool. It was that easy, that's how you make a $2000
website, that's how fast this goes. If you have any questions or anything I can
help you with, please don't hesitate to write it in the box below.
Just tell me what your problem is and I will try and answer it.
I would prefer it if it does have to do with this tutorial, don't just write any old question.
But if it's got to do with this tutorial or anything to do with hosting; uploading these
images; making this website; I will help you as fast as possible.
You can also send me a personal email, whatever you're more comfortable with.
It's easy, so you don't need to be scared by any of that, you don't need to learn any
kind of code, you don't need to know HTML. That was all done without and now we have
a kick-*** dazzling looking website. And that's it, we're finished, we have our
website. So, with that said, I hope you enjoyed this
video. I'm going to be making more videos, so if
you're interested in making an e-commerce website, I'm going to be putting up different
tutorials on how to make an e-commerce website. Also how to make different Wordpress websites,
but this one if with a free theme that is also responsive - that means that it works
on iPads, tablets, iPhones and smartphones and also on regular computers which is really
important in 2013 with over 43% of people accessing the internet throughout their mobile
devices, so you're going to need a responsive website.
Especially if it's responsive, it's usually going to set you back a couple of thousand,
if not actually more sometimes.
As you can see, we've done that really fast, that hasn't taken long at all.
We've built a great looking website and it was simple, it was really really simple.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I hope you learned something from it.
Take a look at my other tutorials; I'm going to be doing a tutorial on SEO, how to rank
your websites higher in the search engines. Also how to optimise your Wordpress website.
But right now, that was my first tutorial on how to make a dazzling Wordpress website.
I hope you liked it, I hope you enjoyed it and hope you click 'Like' on my Facebook page
and of course on my YouTube page. I would really appreciate that and I would
really love to hear a nice comment from you. It only takes 2 minutes, that would be great.
If you sign through Hostgator that would be great too as that helps me carry on creating
these great videos as I get a little bit of affiliate commission from those people using
my affiliate code and more importantly I even save you more money.
So if you're going to sign up for web hosting, please use mine and yeah, I help you get a
better price and it allows me to carry on making more videos for you which reminds me,
I've gotta get on making some nice SEO videos now and show you how to get your websites
better ranked in Google and get them listed at the top of Google as high as possible.
Ok, thanks a lot guys, once again my name is Marc Ashley from flippmate.com.
As you can see, that was easy, hope you enjoyed it, have a good one, bye bye.
