Tip:
Highlight text to annotate it
X
Welcome to "ebrary: Working with the Text" This tutorial shows you how to navigate, search,
highlight, annotate, and use excerpts from ebrary e-books. Please watch "ebrary: An
Introduction" to learn the basics of using ebrary. In this tutorial we
will conduct a search with the term "Zimbardo." From the results list select the
book "Violence Workers." To navigate to a specific section of the book selected
chapter from the table of contents to the left of the e-book. If your topic of
interest is not found in the table of contents you can search within the e-book.
Above the table of contents enter the search term "protest" in the search bar.
This will search through the text to find anything containing the word "protest." The
chapters that contain that word will display a magnifying glass icon. Using
the right page turn, flip through the pages of the chapter that contain the
search word. You will see that that search term is highlighted in every location in
the book. To make your own highlights click and drag your mouse over any text
within the book. On the toolbar, select the icon with the yellow marker to highlight
the text. More color options are found in the drop down menu in the down arrow.
To add an annotation to the text, select the down arrow next to the icon with the yellow
marker. The top three colors are more highlighter color options. The next three
are highlight with annotation options. This will highlight the text as well as enter a
box where you can add notes. To view your annotations, click on the tab nexus table
of contents that says notes. This will display a list of all the highlights and
annotations you have made in that particular book. To remove a
highlight or annotation click the trash can icon to the right of the
annotation description. If you find the passage of text that you wish to use in
a document select the text by clicking and dragging the mouse over it to highlight
it.
Using the info tools drop down menu or by right clicking on the highlighted text,
select option to copy text. In a word document right-click the page and select
paste to enter the passage into the document. Notice how when the text is pasted
ebrary automatically provides a citation for the text. If you have any
questions please contact a reference librarian.
