EMIL LAMPRECHT: Alright, in this first clip, we're going to talk about body position and
movement. Unlike juggling regular balls, clubs or rings, cigar boxes, you throw with your
body instead of your arms. Now, this means a lot of movement and a lot of strength in
your legs is being used. So, what you need to get used to is first, being able to just
do this. The motion to throw a cigar box, which is this shape, is simply just the release
of your hand as your body moves up and down. If you try to throw with your wrist or your
arm, you'll spin the box in strange ways and it won't stay even in the air. To give you
an example of what a basic lift should look like, that's it, very simple, not a lot of
hype. There's more time usually than you think. Now, some cigar box people or jugglers, I
should say, like to keep their feet even and use their whole body forward. I find that
most like to keep one leg forward simply because it gives you a little bit better balance.
You can move your hips around and your arms around more easily and you don't have to worry
about dodging backwards by shuffling, you can just step forward and backward with your
front foot. So, before you start juggling cigar boxes, get use to this movement 'cause
you're going to use it a lot. And when I first started juggling cigar boxes, the day after,
I found that my abs were very sore from doing this. Try to use mostly your hips and your
quads to kind of lift and support you as you do this.
