Erik: What was more rewarding participating in the Parent Teacher Association or PTA at
your children’s school?
Kyung: When my kids were young like sort of preschool age, I had this job where I was
traveling a lot. Like really traveling like all over the world, very, very heavy travel
schedule. So as a result I was never around to go on the field trips or the meetings,
I really relied a lot on my nanny. And so at a later point when my kids were a little
bit older, when they were like six or seven years old and I actually stopped working full
time for a while, I was like a jack in the box that got sprung. I was volunteering for
every field trip and every committee and running the Gala at my kids’ school and volunteering
for parent association meetings and it was great. And I think it also was very, very
rewarding because it brings you into a community of people who are have such a shared interest
in our children and really making our school the best place that it can be. And getting
to know their teachers better also, for me I think having two boys who are not very chatty,
so it was sort of my way of learning what is going on a little bit more so I could even
ask them better questions. So it was very rewarding in many, many ways.
