I'd like to talk about legit singing. Musical theater started with legit singing. Now, that's
a confusing term. What legit singing means is, it's a more classically based sound, like
you would here in opera. In technical terms, it's a very open sound. There's a high quality
to the top of the sound. You would hear this sound in traditional musical theater, like
I could have danced all night, "I could have danced all night!", "I could have danced all
night, and still have begged for more!” You can hear how this tone comes from the
opera world, and how it is in our traditional musical theater. Once again, it's a very open
tone, it's sits high, you can hear the sound almost go up and back, and over. Now this
technique originally started without a microphone. So, you'll hear people sing high legit notes
that are very large, and very big.
