Smoothies are all the rage and rightfully so. It's good nutrition in a cup most of the
time. One of our viewers wants to know, "What are the best ingredients for a smoothie?"
Well, what you wanna be careful of is that you don't have a smoothie that has too much
added sugar. So, if you stick to fruits and vegetables and then a source of protein. It
really makes it a complete meal. So, what I usually do is I like to use up what's in
the fruit and vegetable bin. What looks like maybe I, you know, wanna use it before it
starts going bad. I, also, I know these look scary, but these are frozen bananas. So, when
my bananas are starting to get soft I just pop them in the freezer. And then I peel one
of these it's in it's own container, perfectly safe, and I use it for smoothies. So one of
my favorite go-to smoothies. Is frozen banana, orange juice, some low-fat yogurt, and some
ice. And I just blend it up there. And the the yogurt gives me the protein. I get the,
the banana gives me that frozen, you know, it helps make it freeze. But also you can
throw in ice to thicken it. But that's a favorite easy easy one. But, when you're thinking about
making a smoothie, start with either, you want it to be savory. So if you want a green
tea or you want a green vegetables. What I have here is I've put in my apple juice in
the bottom. And I always like to start with liquid in the bottom. It helps pulverize things.
So, whether you have a juicer or a blender. I put my my liquid in first, I have a couple
of carrots and I have an apple. So that's probably gonna be a great combination. If
I had some kale I'd be throwing it in there as well. But, I like to use a piece of fruit,
even in my savory smoothies, because it just helps add a little dimension of flavor and
give it a little bit of sweetness. Another favorite ingredient is ginger. Fresh ginger
also works really well when it comes to savory. So carrots, kale, spinach, green beans, you
know, you name it, you can really use almost anything you like. When it comes to fruits.
Almost any fruits. But what I like to think about is to making sure I have a source of
protein. So the proteins that I enjoy are low-fat yogurt, silken tofu, peanut butter,
milk, those all work really well. And then whatever fruits and vegetables I have and
you just experiment. So, give it a try. Start out slow. Try it. And there's all kinds of
recipes that you can download if you like, but the good news is that if you don't add
a lot of natural added sugars and you rely on the natural sugars in fruits and vegetables.
And you add a source of protein, it's a complete meal in a cup. It's convenient. You can take
it with you on the go. It's energizing. And the best is, they're delicious.
