I'm here at Laing O'Rourke looking at their state of the art changes
and the way they ensure that quality and design are integral to off-site construction.
It's a very exciting time, because today
we're also receiving the full report of the off-site manufacturing group,
who have set out their thoughts about how in the uk,
we can move away from an assumption that construction is solely about on-site,
so that off-site construction,
the development of quality, the integral use of design at the earliest stage,
can now be brought into the whole of UK construction,
and of course into the housing market as well.
I've just been meeting with a number of the young apprentices,
and what they made clear to me,
is the fact that this approach allows them to get a range of skills,
experience a range of different opportunities,
and do so in a modern industrial environment.
So it's been fascinating to come and see the changes in design, the changes in skills,
but also the investment that Laing O'Rourke have made here.
I think it's a real sign for where we should be going for the future construction industry.
