Hi everybody, my name is Shakti Butler and I'm so happy to be talking to you today. A
year ago we finished our film Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity. This
past year I've been on the road with Cracking the Codes and I have personally shared it
with over 10,000 people. I know that about 500 institutions have adopted this film and
find it useful to meet their goals in terms of addressing issues of equity. We have over
a million people who have viewed clips from Cracking the Codes on our YouTube page, on
the Upworthy page. It lets me know that what I've hoped for is really true. Is that we're
at a place in time where we really can address what does it mean to make a world that works
for everybody? So often when people walk through the doors of a screening or showing or a workshop
that uses Cracking the Codes they are surprised about how wonderful the experience is, actually
happy to have made authentic communication. They watch the film, they talk to one another,
they share stories, they do some critical analysis. They get to understand the frame
that really drives the system of racial inequity. And so Cracking the Codes is really an important
film because it does allow us to have a conversation that needs to happen. A conversation that's
so often avoided. And so I'm asking you, if you believe that dealing with race is a way
that we invite one another to step into our greatness then now is the time for you to
help us do better, do more. And I want to thank you, in advance, for your support.
