VALLEY AND PUSH NORTH THROUGH
THE REST OF THE MORNING. THERE
IT WAS A SLUSHY MORNING COMMUTE
FOR MOST PEOPLE IN HAMPDEN
COUNTY.
22NEWS REPORTER KAIT WALSH IS
LIVE IN THE STUDIO... AFTER
CHECKING OUT CONDITIONS
THROUGHOUT CHICOPEE.
WHEN WE WERE DRIVING IN AROUND 3
THIS MORNING, IT WAS SNOWING
HEAVILY.
A THICK BLANKET OF SNOW COVERED
MOST ROADS...BUT AS MOST PEOPLE
WOKE UP THIS
MORNING...EVERYTHING HAD
CHANGED.
SNOWBLOWING WAS DEFINITELY THE
MOST EFFICIENT AND LESS PAINFUL
WAY OF
CLEARING THE SNOW AROUND 8
O'CLOCK.
ICE AND RAIN MIXED WITH THE SNOW
CAUSING A VERY HEAVY, MESSY MIX.
I COULD HEAR SNOWBLOWERS
THROUGHOUT THIS NEIGHBORHOOD IN
CHICOPEE.
YOU CAN GET AN IDEA OF HOW
LABORING SHOVELING WAS: THE
WATER REALLY
WEIGHED IT DOWN.
SNOW WEIGHED DOWN BRANCHES ON
TREES.
THAT MEANT BRUSHING OFF THE CAR
WAS FAIRLY EASY...EVERYTHING
CAME OFF WITH ONE SWOOP...BUT
UNDERFOOT...DRIVEWAYS WERE
SLIPPERY.
KIDS IN CHICOPEE HAD A 2-HOUR
SCHOOL DELAY...WHICH MEANT SOME
HAD TO SPEND
THAT EXTRA TIME SHOVELING.
I SPOKE WITH ONE FAMILY GETTING
READY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS
SNOW BY
GOING SKIING UP IN
VERMONT...AFTER CLEARING THE
DRIVEWAY.
"UHH, IT'S ALL LIKE GOOPY AND
GROSS AND IT'S JUST A
LOT OF WATER CONTENT, SO GOOD
THING I HAVE A SNOWBLOWER. MY
POOR NEIGHBOR OVER THERE IS
SHOVELING AND THAT MAKES IT A
LOT HARDER."
EVEN THOUGH MAIN ROADS WERE
PLOWED AROUND 8 THIS MORNING,
SIDE ROADS
STILL WERE NOT.
AT ITS PEAK, CHICOPEE GOT A
TOTAL OF 3- AND-A-HALF INCHES OF
SNOW.
