When I need a gift for an out-of-state friend or relative, I like to give something I make myself,
from something that grows wild right here in Missouri.
These glazed nuts fit the bill perfectly...and you won’t believe how easy they are to make!
Combine a half-cup of sour cream, a half-cup of white sugar and a full cup of brown sugar in a saucepan.
Bring the mixture to a rolling boil and continue boiling until mixture comes to soft ball stage.
This takes about 5 minutes.
To see if the glaze is ready, drop a bit of the hot candy coating into a glass of cold water.
If it forms into a ball, it’s ready.
Remove the candy glaze from the heat, add vanilla and stir.
Add your choice of black walnuts or pecans, stir until completely coated,
then spread the mixture out on waxed paper to cool.
Use a fork to separate the nuts as much as possible while they’re hot.
With a nice tin or bag with a pretty bow, you have a wonderful gift...
if you can stand to give them away.
In fact, you might want to make a double batch so you can keep some for yourself!
