This event is Eve of Nations. It happens once a year. It's the largest international
event in oklahoma where an international advisory committee
is the umbrella organization for twenty seven
student organizations
representing different cultures on campus.
So they come together and it's a competition of cultural dances.
As well as a dinner
and other guest performers that come together and it's
about three hours long and it's basically just like a taste of every
culture that exists at OU.
OU has a very multi-cultural and diverse community here
and the Eve of Nations is a representation of that diversity here.
So this year is really kind of a different turn from years past
because the theme is "branching out"
and so the focus instead of just being a showcasing culture is actually
to engage the community around us, the OU students and the Oklahoma community,
and sort of share with them
what all of their cultures are, but at the same time also let them know that
they're students here too and they are accessible and they really are
interested
in not only engaging them in performance, but also on campus, at other events,
and all different types of organizations.
I really feel
amazed coming here and to see
how interested people are and
the steps people take to learn about different cultures and to promote diversity
at the campus.
It has truly been a magnificent experience
and I hope to be part of this again next year.
This is a case where
one of the only times that every international organization
can showcase their own culture to the people
and show what's so unique about their heritage
and I think that's very important
for people that don't get the opportunity to go outside
to the outside world and really get to understand and experience this.
So with this event i feel like
this is
where they will be
able to first-hand experience all of that up close.
