I have a croissant which is a big no-no if you're doing interviews.
So I will wait until I take the next bite
because I'm sat here with Dr Isabel Faulkner.
What's your main reason for being here at the conference?
I'm chair of the Associate Lecturers Committee
which has overall responsibility
for the associate lecturer representatives structure
whose conference this is.
Fantastic. Why is this conference not boring?
Because it's all about meeting people, exchanging ideas,
exchanging experiences
and having a chance to influence senior university officers
in their thinking and feed into university practise
and the way the university's going.
I haven't met anybody that's not excited about this
and I came here thinking, associate lecturers conference,
doesn't sound the most interesting conference
that as an outsider to the Open University, I would like to go to
but I've heard about networking, about web 2.0,
all very relevant, hot, present topics right now.
Are you learning a lot and getting a lot out of this?
Yes, I am.
Particularly about other people's views
because as associate lecturers we can get very isolated at home
working with our own students.
And it's great to have an opportunity to get together, meet people
and find out what they all think.
You're not the first person to talk about the isolation
which I do think is actually going to be changed very soon.
Exciting times.
Last question.
Did you think about what you were wearing before you came here?
Yes, I came down from Scotland
so I had to pack for three days away.
Well, you're looking very stylish. Thank you very much.
