As I got close to the Swan, I started debating if I should record it. Contrasting it with
the other three bird exhibits that I had recorded: The Cape Barren goose, Demoiselle Crane, and
the flamingos. The black swan was stunning but really boring.
I insisted on filming it, even though it was probably not going to be the most exciting
thing in the world, but still, the animal was really beautiful, maybe everything else
can be overlooked for that beauty. Isn't that how life works anyway?
That hot girl can be really boring, but she still gets a lot of attention...
To be fair to the animal, there was a sign saying that it was new to the zoo and was
still a little shy. It asked the visitors to be kind as it got acclimated.
I hope my recording didn't upset it.
I think patience is necessary to appreciate this bird. He's not a fast paced, up-to-the-minute,
CNN Headlines News kind of guy, but that is something that I have grown to expect out
of entertainment.
Maybe that's my problem. This is not an entertainment activity but rather one that
is educational.
I get to step out of my office and be part of this animal's life for just a short while.
It doesn't understand what people want, maybe I kept on recording because deep down
inside, I wanted to understand him. I know most find him boring. He literally, as is
evident on the recording, stayed in that one place doing very little.
Can someone stay there for more than 1 or 2 minutes? Well, I did, mostly because I was
recording him. If i wasn't for that, I would've left as well.
I wonder what are the plans for the Black Swan exhibit. His enclosure seemed provisory.
Very small in an odd area of the zoo.
This zoo has recently gone through some changes. I have been coming here for the past 2 to
3 years. Many exhibits have disappeared and not much has taken their place.
Over time, the zoo did away with their large free roaming animals. I never thought having
those animals outside and transiting with the visitors was a good idea, especially when
you're talking about llamas and donkeys. Chickens and other small animals still roam
everywhere, but none of the large ones.
They had a lot of camels too, most of them were gone and the zoo started to look a little
empty.
Maybe that is why the Black Swan is here. To fill one of those empty spaces.
Maybe he'll get a buddy to keep him company.
Together they can be a little more active. Not CNN News active, more like Bloomberg,
slower than CNN, but more educational.
Right now he's C-SPAN boring. Well, maybe not that boring...
