I've been working with Janet since I was 17, actually--
later years of 17 years old.
My first project with her was the Velvet Rope Tour and the
Promo Tour.
That was choreographed by Tina Landon.
She took me under her wings after the tour.
She was like, hey, why don't you assist me and come and
learn from me?
And so I got to see Tina Landon, the legend
choreographer, at work and assisting her throughout so
many different projects.
Me and Tina definitely have different styles, obviously.
I mean, as soon as I was asked to choreograph for Janet, I
think the first video I did was "All Night," what I
brought on from Tina Landon is her work ethic and the
discipline it takes to put on a show and for the dancers to
be as tight as possible.
Janet's known for big shows and big everything.
And that sure will come along again, but this time, the
direction was hey, why don't we do intimate?
Why don't we do intimate settings, iconic theaters?
I think that's one thing everyone will be able to take
away from this tour, is that you could actually feel her
and touch her and feel the energy.
And you're taken on this journey of when Janet started
her career to now.
This project and the last project, she's pretty much
given me sort of the reigns choreographically.
I'm going to show up, I'm going to learn it, and we're
going to work hard.
I know her body.
I know what she looks good in.
And I know what the dancers would look good in.
I don't want to change much of the old iconic choreography.
And so every person that's choreographed for her--
you can see the evolution of her choreography and how she
really, really changed the world through dance.
