Today we are in Los Angeles with Amber Benson, the co-author
of the super natural thriller The Ghost of Albian, a Curse.
And thank you for joining us. You flatter me.
But you are perhaps best known for playing Tara on
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. How did you end up writing a novel?
I was approached by Chris Golden, who is my co-author on the book,
about writing some comic books, The Dark Wars, based on my character
and my character's lesbian girlfriend on the film Willow.
And so we did 3 comics for them, an then the BBC approached us
about doing something for them that was actually more
of like a Buffy meets Jane Austin sort of thing, Chris and I went
sort of, we don't want to do that, we want to do something
kind of different and unique. So that's how I got in to
whriting books, because it's very odd.
What is your book about? In the Curse of Albian
is about a brother and sister who find that they are
the magical protectors of England.
They have to stop all the bad guys from taking over England,
'cause you know, the world is constantly being attacked by
bad guys and we just don't realize it. And then the book Curse,
is the ongoing adventures of the brother and sister.
Lara and William Swift. Tell me more Amber, scare me.
Ok, well, I'll scare you with some sex. How about that?
We tried to make them as dirty as we could, you know,
because Victorians, you know they are kind of oppressed and if you
read Victorian Erotica, that is pretty gnarly.
So we wanted to king of tap into that. We have monsters that
are impregnating women, and having birth some nasty toad creatures.
We have some Victorian sex. We have demons who like to
eat people alive and leave their bones. We have ghosts,
we have a vampire, we have everything. This is going to be an
ongoing series. We hope, we hope.
We are contracted for two so, we'll see how it goes.
Hopefully everybody in the whole world will go buy them.
It's interesting that your first novel has a sense of the supernatural
and it also has a vampire character. Now did your work on Buffy
play into utilizing these in your first novel? Buffy opened so many doors for me
that I sort of found myself entrenched in this Sci-Fi genre
Sci-Fi horror kind of place. And that's what people
see me as. It wasn't like a huge influence on what I was doing,
it definitely.....
Anber thank you very much for being with us today.
Thank you. The book is:
The Ghost of Albian. By Amber Benson, and Christopher Golden.
If you are in the mood for a supernatural thriller
about Victorian England, you should pick up
your copy today. And read the book.
Until next time, I'm James Michael Tyler,
Goodbye.
It's a lot of fun, there is a lot of magic, and sex, and fighting
and violence and death and gore.
