PUSD Board Meeting Highlights
for Tuesday, October 26, 2010
Consolidation Update:
The Board of Education voted to give Superintendent Diaz flexibility
to recommend closure of fewer than three schools in 2011-12;
to postpone relocation of the District central office pending the results of a feasibility
study;
and to remove Norma Coombs Alternative School and Jackson Elementary School
from consideration for closure or relocation in 2011-12.
The Board of Education considered whether to
continue, revise or stop the school consolidation process
based on a potential $5 million restoration in district funding
as a result of the state budget approved last month.
The Board gave the Superintendent an additional week to submit his recommendation
to allow time for direct input from affected schools.
Election Format:
The Board heard a special presentation from the Pasadena City Clerk
about the format of the Board of Education’s AT-LARGE election
and how it aligns to State regulations.
A primary election of Board members representing
seats two, four and six is scheduled for March 8, 2011.
A general election is scheduled the following month.
College and Career Pathways:
The Board heard a presentation by District staff
on the progress of Linked Learning and the College and Career Pathways initiative
that provides students with a college preparatory curriculum
with real-world applications.
College and Career Pathways is the district’s secondary reform initiative.
Enrollment in the program has increased by 49.9 percent
since 2005-2006 as the academies were transformed into pathways.
