In cultural news, Peruvian fabrics are ascertained to be 12,000 years old. The materials were
found in Peru’s Guitarrero Cave in the Andes Mountains. Their age has been confirmed by
carbon dating conducted by anthropologist Dr. Edward Jolie from Mercyhurst College in
Pennsylvania, USA. This makes them the oldest textiles ever discovered in South America.
The woven fabrics are thought to have been used for bags, baskets, floor covers, or bedding,
by people who visited the cave before venturing onto higher altitudes in the mountains.
Our thankfulness, Dr. Jolie and other researchers, for helping to give us a glimpse into the
ancient history of lovely Peru. May we cherish our past as we look forward to a glorious
and sustainable future.
