OK, I think part of the creativity--creativity was obviously there. I was born with it but
I wasn't using it. As a matter of fact, I had a neuropsychologist that does nothing
more than test people and do assessments on how extensive is their damage.
And it was inexplicable to him on why the paralysis did not cause permanent damage on
the right side of my body. My speech was not impaired. Movement of my arm and leg was not
impaired. And I even had use of my right eye which I was not supposed to have.
And all of that simply disappeared. But he did do a test on me, and he came in the office
one day and he said, "Mr. Scharnell," he said, "I don't even know if I can treat you. Look
at the results on this test." He said, "Everybody that takes this test has a squiggly line,
and it goes up and then it comes back down. Yours went straight up and straight across."
He said, "I've never met anybody like you before." He said, "You've never used the right
side of your brain." He said, "You're not going to miss anything over there. You've
never used it."
I was laughing at him, thinking it was very humorous. But he was dead serious with me.
He said, "Really, I don't know if I can treat you." He said, "You've never used, this test
tells me you've never used the right side of your brain. You've been a left brain thinker
all your life.
So I left with that thought and I thought, "Wow, this is amazing. I do have, maybe I
have something over there. and I discovered creativity. It all came in dribs and drabs
over a period of time.
