When asked this question Are there any geniuses in business or just some clever guys who get lucky (and some who don't)? I answered in full run-on sentence style (since I'm busy and haven't turned this over to our team yet)... Yes, of course. Believing they were just lucky is selfish. Creating your own luck like my friends Rick Dees and the late Steve Jobs that happily have admitted they didn't do it on their own. They did it by realizing they have this
creative genius inside, so their contagious excitement attracted others to help them get things done. I call this concept "hiring people that are smarter than me to get the stuff done that bores me." It's so simple. You may be great at accounting, another person is great at drawing the diagrams of the fashion designs that I thought of but I could not draw, yet another is a superb writer that knows the 'Strunk & White" rules of Journalism as well or better than I do, after all I
took Journalism 101 three times to get a perfect score. I write super fast, filling the world with run-on sentences and grammatical errors without concern because I have no time to worry about perfection, it's most important to let the words flow while the inspiration fire is hot, then hiring others that are GREAT at correcting any errors made while focusing on getting the words out. Like I said, (last sentence) run-on sentences - - You say, OMG that's horrible, University Professors
(UP) and Women on Popular Online Dating Sites (WPODS) will count grammatical errors against you (eHarmony, match, etc). And I say... So what. I graduated after five years of boring classes so I could get out and actually learn, and perfect grammar is not listed as one of the true factors in making marriage last a lifetime, despite all the hype about chemistry which is affected for sure by errors. Can I design websites? Sure I could waste a year of what's more valuable than any amount
of money (TIME) mastering web design but WHY? I'd rather find new, super talented person that loves web design, that has mastered this art so I can focus on what I enjoy doing (work that feels more like fun). It's much more productive than boring myself designing websites. Creative geniuses acknowledge that it is SELFISH to believe that any one person can do it all alone. I appreciate that the world is filled with this endless variety of talent and intelligence. Oh, and that
word "genius" is measured by some test created by what sources? Sources you've never heard of? Isn't it odd that standardized test creators are rarely names that are known for their own genius? Business genius, as shown via Rick Dees and Steve Jobs, is admitting that you cannot be all and do all, that it takes smart, talented, creative people that are hired to do stuff that they like to do, which means they are not slaves to a job, they choose to do it because it's not like work, instead,
they are people that enjoy the benefits of knowing they are helping you along the way while they are paid for their time. Are those on the design team of the original MacIntosh proud of their work? For sure, and Steve Jobs insisted that their signatures be inside of every one of those machines. Rick Dees hired people and gave them a chance to shine. 100% of them have nothing but positive words to say about him. Geniuses have ideas and dreams, they find people with
similar passion and excitement that are 'A players' (this is NOT necessarily the same as 'A students') that are driven to do something great rather than live life doing what was realistic because it felt secure. They do not work with the protectors of the mundane as this would not be worth the sacrifices made... sleeping on people's floors, sacrificing food and luxury to pay for the time of others which they know will lead to future visions being realized.- SAM BOTTA
