OK dude, you ready to go?
Yeah.
This is our graduate design class, 7310.
It's mostly first year grad students who've come from all
over the world, and they want to do innovative product
design.
And we've found that it's important to have a kind of a
warmup exercise at the beginning of the year.
The theme of a paper vehicle has been a constant over the
years so that we can emphasize this idea of delving into the
literature and finding out about technology.
But the details of the challenge are different every year,
because we want it to be a new design.
So this year, the challenge is to scoop in, scoop up as many
of these giant beach balls, and little ones too, as you can.
And deposit them in these two white racks, you can see one
over there.
Lets go, come on then, come on then.
[background noise of competition]
Meanwhile people on the other team will be trying to defend
the racks and preventing you from doing that, and uh, it
should be fun.
[competitor noise]
There will be some water involved, yeah, some defensive
water strategies to try to knock other people's beach balls
out of their rack.
We don't know how strongly that's gonna get used this year.
We'll find out.
Everyone, look at this camera right here.
Everybody in the class gets to know everybody else, and they
all have a shared experience.
One, two, three, whoooo!
