In Spring 2012 Wilfred Laurier University and the University of Waterloo will welcome more than 7000 scholars, students and policy makers from a variety of humanities and social science disciplines
who will come together at Congress 2012 to share their ideas discuss important issues that confront us and enrich their research.
As host of the congress of humanities and social sciences, the University of Waterloo and Laurier University will be welcoming more than 70 scholarly associations from May 26th to June 2nd.
So what is congress 2012 have to offer? As the academic conveners we would like to share our enthusiasm for what promises to be an exciting and stimulating congress.
Our theme of Crossroads: Scholarship for an Uncertain World, emphasizes intersections of knowledge and disciplines, of traditional and innovation, and of the local and global.
We have invited a number of wonderful speakers to share their thoughts as part of our "Big Thinking" lecture series. These include names like Margaret Atwood and Thomas Homer Dixon who will address some of the pressing concerns for our time.
Our speakers will explore issues of governance, environmental sustainability, human rights, the impact of technology and the vital role of Arts and Culture in a rapidly changing society.
A technology hub with strong rural roots, Waterloo is a region of crossroads and an ideal location to reflect on the theme on Congress 2012.
Waterloo is celebrated as much as much for our digital and technological innovations, our centres of excellence as well as our cultural heritage.
