There was a man in the water, holding on to a pile-on
just off a fishing pier. Wasn't quite sure how he got out there at the time.
Later, found out that he was, I believe, wade fishing and the tide came in and the surf got a little bit heavy for him
and he ended up holding on to a pile-on. I believe he was there for an hour or so
before we actually made it on scene.
Once I got into the water and started swimming towards him, I just gained communication with him.
Let him know I was coming. I kind of held on to the same pile-on he was holding on to
and just pretty much briefed him trying to figure out which way to go away from the pile-ons
to get him to a safe hoisting platform. He had some fishing line that was kind of tangled around him
I just made sure he was free of before I started swimming him away
Once I got that untangled, we were just swimming and I did my best just to keep his head out of the water
from the little surf that was coming in while the flight mechanic or the hoist operator will get
will get the basket out from the back and ready to be lowered.
Started lowering the basket and he's going to get it about five to ten feet away from me.
Once the basket is in the water, I swim him up to it and I put him in and
and I do my last minute safety checks - make sure everything is connected and I will give one last read for pick-up signal
And then the flight mechanic will hoist the basket up and once he gets him up to the cabin he will bring him inside.
