Today is our Senior Day at the Downs.
Today we have graduating seniors, uh,
participating in commencement this weekend.
We also have people from the graduate school.
They’re just out here, fellowshipping, having a good time,
ingling with one another and it’s a way for us to meet them before,
you know, they leave, and head off into their different career paths.
So, it’s just a way for us to interact with our alumni.
It’s really a networking event where newly graduating seniors,
or newly graduating students, are sort of interacting and mingling with alumni.
We’re sort of getting a feel of what it’s like to be an
alumnus to the University of Louisville,
and it’s also at a place like Churchill Downs, so historic and
so integral to our city, it’s one of the best locations to do something like this.
The first year this event was hosted was my graduating senior year in 2010
so I was really excited that they kept the event around
because I enjoyed myself the first time and this is my second time here
and I’m so happy they’re keeping this tradition alive and everyone always
enjoys themselves when they’re here at the Downs.
The University, in addition to the city, I just, you know,
like the combination of the two, because coming from Chicago,
which is a big city, you know, Louisville you can get anywhere in 10 minutes
but you still got that big city feeling, you know what I mean.
And everyone on campus is really awesome; I’ve had a good time.
I think it’s different from when I graduated because I think UofL
was still considered much of a commuter school.
I know they’ve made great strides to become more
traditional four year institution,
so I think it’s a little different for students now than when I was still in school.
I think the message is still the same,
it’s important to stay connected to the people you went to school with,
even if you didn’t know them in school because collectively
we all want to be a part of something,
you know we all want to get back to something,
so why not give back to each other,
whether it’s a job or a sales lead,
helping a friend out because you guys went to college together.
