Hello, Youtube. I'm here again with another Technology Vlog. Hopefully this one is a lot
longer than last weeks as I have has a full week to prepare. So lets's jump right into
this and we'll see you on the other side.
So let's start with Google. What have they been up to recently? Well on Friday 17/01/2014
a news story broke that really caught my eye, sorry for the pun! Google has created a prototype
smart contact lens that can detect the glucose levels in your blood system. So what does
it do and more importantly, how does it work? The smart contact lens uses a "tiny" wireless
chip and a "miniaturised" glucose sensor embedded between two layers of lens material. The glucose
sensor in turn checks the levels in your tears and if it detects anything it could change
colour if it's too high or low or another colour for the opposite effect. According
to the International Diabetes Federation, one in ten people across the world's population
are forecast to have diabetes by 2035. Although this is only a prototype from Google it is
still amazing what can be achieved from technology. If it's like this now in 2014 what's it going
to be like in 2030?
Onto something which affect many people are the UK each day, that is the daily commute.
Well with thanks to OfCom they have approved the use of new satellite technology. This
means exactly? The UK telecoms regulator has given the green light to the use of so-called
earth stations on moving vehicles. The devices connect to a geostationary satellite orbiting
above the equator. In layman's terms basically what this means is OfCom has granted permission
for train, boat and plane companies to connect to these Earth Stations to gain faster broadband
evening in a fast moving vehicle. Many of you may say we already have Wi-Fi on trains
etc.. yes that's fine and well but this basically means it will be a lot faster than it is now!
Although critics have called on the Government and OfCom to think about the home first! Many
places in the UK are getting on average 2mb download speed! This I agree with, everyone
no matter where they live should get at least 10mb download speed before they starting arseing
around elsewhere!
Quick step back to Google and their Nexus devices, and something I am finally excited
to see some tech news about. Google's rumoured Nexus 8 tablet will arrive with a 64-bit Intel
Bay Trail-T processor on board in mid-2014, according to a report. The report goes on
to say that LG will likely retain development responsibilities on the project, despite sales
of the latest Nexus 7 missing internal targets. Can't wait!
Onto Sony for this news snippet and I am seeing an awful lot of reports over the last week
of an error code being threw up by the PS4. The CE-34878-0 code which some users have
seen their consoles affected by. Which causes game saves to stop loading or freeze games
entirely. According to Sony "If you are experiencing this ce-34878-0 error code, please close the
application and then install the latest system software and game patch." "If the error occurs
again, initialise the PS4 system after back-up of the save data and please also submit any
crash reports after re-booting your console when the error occurs." community coordinator
wrote on the official PlayStation Forum. If you've been affected by this let me know in
the comments down below.
Ending on a sort of sad note with Nintendo. Argos is selling the 32GB Premium console
for £179.99, a reduction of £120 on the original asking price. Argos is also selling
the Basic console for the same price. Nintendo is now expected to post a net loss of 25 billion
yen (£146m/$240m), having originally predicted it would make a net profit of 55 billion yen
(£322m/$529m). Will 2014 be the death of Nintendo? I for one hope not as Nintendo was
the gaming company I grew up with, starting away back with the NES then moving onto the
SNES when that came out. Personally to me they thought the Wii U would be a bigger hit
that the Wii was, how wrong they were!
So that is it for another week folks, hopefully this has covered some stuff that you have
found useful from the wonderful world that is technology. Please like, share and subscribe
to help me and my channel out. Until the next time, thanks for watching!
