Hey guys. Thanks for tuning in and welcome to the second part of the
MST tutorial for Ocarina of Time.
In the first part we did the forest escape to Kakariko
and we got a bottle there. Then, we savewarped to get to Links house very fast
and that's where we are gonna start right now.
What we're going to do in this part is the Deku Tree
until Gohma, which is the boss, and the Deku Tree is kind of a technical dungeon.
It includes a lot of minor time savers
and there is one big trick
that, if you fail it, you need to use one of the backup strats that are available.
I'll show you every backup strat that I know
and every backup strat that is useful
and I'll explain it to you as good as possible.
We're starting off here by taking some
damage from the Deku Baba because
in the boss fight, which I'll show in the next video
we'll need half a heart, because we want to die
on the same frame we kill the boss. But that's something for the next video.
Right here, we're gonna jumpslash over the cutscene trigger for
the Deku Tree so that Link walks a lot further than he should.
So, basically the Deku Tree is just one big cycle.
You're gonna climb all the way up and then, with a certain
trick you're gonna jump down to Basement 1. Then,
you can just go to Basement 2 immediately and there is the Boss door.
So the only thing I have to do is explain you how to do this trick
and what to do if you fail it because luckily it doesn't mean your run's over
if you fail it.
So the video is structured as follows:
I'll first show you how to do the Deku Tree correctly and then I'll show you
all the backup strats you need to know to get to Basement 2. In the next
video I'll show you how to do Gohma.
Okay, now we're inside
and the first thing we're going to do is kill the Deku Baba because he
drops a Deku nut and we need those.
Then we're gonna pause the game and equip
Deku nuts and Deku stick. Then we're gonna walk up to the vines and
just before we start climbing the vines we're gonna pull out a Deku stick,
because Navi wants to talk to you right here.
If you pull out the Deku stick just before you start climbing you skip Navi's text.
Same here: I backflip onto the chest and into the vines
because if I step on the ground just in front of the vines
Navi will try to talk to me again. I got very lucky with these spiders
by the way. Normally,
they're a bit of a pain because they start
crawling towards you and hit you off the vines and stuff.
Coming up is the skip to Basement 2
where the Boss room is, so first I'm gonna show you the trick
and afterwards I'm gonna play it in slo-mo
and then explain how it works.
This was it, guys. There's a lot going on in this trick.
But first: remember that you hold Z
the whole time during the trick and start off by
backflipping and then at the end of your flip throw a Deku nut because you want
to stun the
spider that's behind you. Then, sidehop to the left
and backflip again.
During this backflip you pull out your sword, right here, and then,
because you're holding Z, press A. Then you'll do a
jumpslash. And now,
press your shield button because the jumpslash will put you
on a certain position and if you press your shield button, you will
stay at that position.
Wow, that was a very weird frame here. Did you
see that? Here. Okay, whatever. At this position you backflip
and then you start falling and then
around here you're gonna - still hold Z -
and hold left and start mashing A
because you wanna jump to the left right here. And then you've got to wait for a
few frames,
then jumpslash and you want the
point of your sword to hit the wall at this black texture.
I'll point it out right here.
That's the one I'm talking about.
That's where my sword hits the wall, so your
jump slash should start about here.
You may try to pause buffer this.
If you did this correctly, you'll end up one this scene.
Now, immediately backflip and sidehop to the left
because the web right here isn't yet loaded so you just fall through it.
That is because
we completely owned this dungeon. The game didn't yet have
the chance to load the web's texture,
so that's kinda cool. Now if you're down here you can just defeat these Deku Scrubs
and dthen go to the Boss room. However, if you missed that
jumpslash, you'll have to use a backup strat to
get onto the ledge on which we jumpslashed.
I made some footage of the best ways to do this.
This method is the fastest.
Make sure to align your view with the wall and then
you get it into the corner. That's where the black texture is, next to Link's head.
Then, you want to roll into this corner to make sure you're at the perfect
position.
Then you backflip twice, sidehop right and sidehop left,
then press C-up and align the left of your sword button
with this light grey texture. Then, if you're ready, hold Z,
press A and then press A and forward.
Pressing A makes you roll and pressing A and forward makes you
jump to ledge.
This next trick is really cool
but it's also kinda hard. It uses ISG and
I have made a separate video about that. So please check the link that
pops up right now or check the links in the description if you wanna know more.
Basically what's going to happen is, you're gonna
stab and you're going to cancel that stab by opening a chest.
You do that by quickly mashing A after your stab.
So right here, notice the white glow on Links' sword.
That means that you've activated the glitch.
I'm pausing here for a second because
I want to explain this trick properly. A side effect of ISG
is that you're unable to walk off ledges so what we're gonna do is take out our
shield and sidehop off the ledge into the Skulltula. That's the spider on the wall.
Now, normally, when you shield damage, Link flinches and the game changes his
position.
That's what the game wants to do here too, however, the infinite sword glitch is
still active, and
since you're not on the ground the game thinks you're about to walk
off a ledge and since you can't walk off ledges
it will put you in mid-air. So, shielding damage while ISG is active makes you
hover.
Well, while you're in the air.
This is the principle of bomb hovering, which is a technique I hope to explain
in the near future.
Let's do the first part of the trick.
Get into this corner and use C-up to align the red crystal of your sword
on your sword button
with the left side of the fourth bar. Then,
leave C-up mode and tap right on your control stick, so you stand perpendicular
to your previous position.
Now, press and hold both your target and your shield button
and do a sidehop to the left. Then, you'll stick in the air because of
ISG and here I pausing the video again.
As we stand in mid-air we will perform another trick called a megaflip
and for that you'll need to shield damage at the same moment as Link starts a backflip.
This damage gives link more speed during his jump so that you backflip
a lot further.
In this case that's ideal because then we will just flip onto the
higher ledge.
So, on this frame you should still be holding your target and shield button
and you should wait like a second or two in the air after your side up
then press A to do a roll and at the end of your roll, still pressing
your target and shield button, do a backflip. You'll automatically shield
the Skulltula's damage at the right frame
and you just backflip onto the ledge. Right now, I'll just show the whole
technique again so that you can practice your timing on the sidehop or the megaflip.
I will show the 3rd and 4th technique to get to Basement 2 right here.
They use a trick called a megasidehop which is very similar to the megaflip
only now, of course, we use a sidehop instead of a backflip.
The input is: target about this point on the wall
and stand to the left of this Deku Baba. Now wait for him to snap his beak
and on the third snap, press A to roll. At the end of your roll, hold
left and mash A and then you'll perform a megasidehop.
Then, you'll end up on the scene of Basement 2 is done correctly.
This method is exactly the same, except now you will time your roll differently.
You should let the Deku Baba push you as far away as possible
and just before he starts snapping his beak, roll and do the sidehop.
The timing is a little strict but the entire trick is somewhat faster as well.
This was the last of my tricks to get to this scene.
The only thing is, now the web is loaded so we have to burn it
and the fastest way to do that is through flame storage and I'll
show that right here.
You're not actually storing a flame or something.
It's just the name of the trick.
This is quite an extraordinary trick. Basically what happens is that one of
the hitboxes of our sword becomes detached over the torch.
If you hit the flame with the tip of your sword, like this,
and then do nothing else with, it such as slashing, the moment you pull out
a Deku stick, the game notices that the swords' hitbox says
it's near a torch, so it makes the Deku stick catch fire.
Yes guys, it's a miracle. We made fire out of thin air.
Now if you're having a lot of trouble with flame storage, here's an easy backup strat.
Just push the block two times and climb onto it.
Then, look at the right side next to the torch and jump off the block.
At the end of your jump, you should press the C button for the Deku stick
and then it just lits. Easy as that.
So now we're already at the final part of this tutorial and it addresses
defeating these Deku Scrubs. You'll have to beat them in the order 2-3-1, so first
the middle one,
then the right one and finally to left one and I do that here really fast.
I hope you noticed my position. I was a little to the right
Scrub in the middle because
then both the left and the right Scrub also shot their projectiles at
me. I just missed that last one, that sucks,
but coming up as a small speed trick. Target this last Scrub and then,
just after his bullet deflects from your shield, roll towards him and sidehop
to the right.
This will put you a little closer to the Boss door, which means that we've
reached the end of this video.
So for now, thank you for watching guys. Make sure to check the description and
please don't hesitate to leave a comment.
I hope to see you all in the next part. Bye!
