77 students, 77 dreams, 1 goal to be 1 class, 1 family. We learned, we love, we fought, we won, and we did everything for God
Well, there’s a lot of “new” things that happened to us when we were in 1st year. New school for transferees, new classmates, new advisers, new friends, new faces, new lessons, new crushes, new problems, and new atmosphere.
I remembered the first time I walked to the corridors of Atheneum, I am really nervous of how will the first day be.
I checked the bulletin board, it was exactly June 08,2009 when I knew that 1st year was composed of three sections we were too many to be accommodated in two sections
the school divided our class into three:
: Amethyst under Ms. Kris Hofilena,
, Diamond under Sir. Marvin Maming
and Sapphire under Ms. Ynah Bebania.
This is also the time when relationships started to form and “tropas” were born, groups like truepa,
tropang kolee, wild girls,
Shy boys,
TKD,
tropang exo, fliptak emcee’s, let’s go boys and whatsoever names.
. Also, the PDA or the People of Diamond and Amethyst who arranged a successful outreach program handled mainly by Ms. Kris Hofilena.
Though the sapphire feels a little of being an outcast, who will forget what Sir. Alvin wrote instead of “the pen is mightier than the sword” “the *** is mightier than the sword”.
Months passed by quickly and it was our first foundation week as high school students.
We participated in the school’s cheering competition and unfortunately we ranked 4th or the lowest.
Regarding the sports fest, we had the same rank, but it didn’t stop us and brought our determination down.
It doesn’t matter if it’s just our first time because we still had three more years to prove ourselves to everyone.
Also, our very first FS night, it was a night to remember because it helped us to spend more time with each other and know everyone deeper.
Then it came, our very first fieldtrip as high school students.
Who would ever forget the time when we visited a museum and Christoffer Gamat opened a jar of preserved candy and almost putting it to his mouth,
, I remember one of the staff there saw him and became angry to Ms. Ynah instead of Christoffer. The staff said “pakisabe sa teacher niyo sawayin yung estyudante niya ha”.
We were all laughing because she didn’t notice that Ms. Ynah was our teacher.
That was “The beginning”.
We’ve been through a lot of things, we’ve experienced so many things but we are here because every one of us starts from being a baby. As compared to studying we we’re once the freshmen.
Sophomore year came. Who would ever forget that “Sophomore” turned to “Sophos” and we are the first batch who wore jerseys with “Sophos” written on it.
We were divided into two sections: the 2nd year Gold handled by Ms. Kris
and 2nd year Platinum handled by Sir Joland.
It was Sir. Joland’s first time to handle a highschool class. Although, he eventually adapted himself into teaching highschool students.
It was the first day of my second year in highschool and I had the biggest dilemma of my life. I was separated from my friends and I thought that I would be a loner for the rest of the year.
. Thanks to Kia and her friends, I had some pals to talk to while having lunch. Friendship grew within our batch and there was the formation of circle of friends.
We were able to form a strong bond with each other but there came a time when we had to face problems and challenges.
This is one of the hardest years ever, we dealt with a lot of new subjects like Chemistry, Geometry, and BiologyII
but the happiest part is we met Sir Aldrin Bonto who taught us Chemistry.
. I will never forget the first day we saw him, his cute and charming smile like Rom Chan’s. Eventually we became close to Sir Aldrin
I still remember our last FS night. I was the one who made our intermission number and we performed it very well. Ms. Kris and Sir Joland showed their youthful side with a dance number.
The night ended with so much laughter and fun. It was a night of dancing and fun.
Then came our first experience ever to appear on national television.
Our school was invited to come and watch live at the ABS-CBN studio: Showtime and Twist –and-Shout.
. It was an unforgettable experience to see famous celebrities just a few meters away from us.
Unfortunately, only a few were chosen to come. Oh well, they missed.
Then on October 2010 our school hosted the municipal meet for the very first time. We were all excited for the big event.
We were all flashed when students from other schools came to our second home and battled with my schoolmates.
Foundation week came and we performed during the Cheerdance Competition.
We failed and landed as the 2nd runner up.
We felt really bad but we accepted our failure and promised ourselves to do better next time.
After foundation week, there came rumors that a band will perform in our school.
Our school then arrived with the decision that the band “Spongecola” will perform at our school. We were all very happy and excited.
We even bought our tickets. As expected, the concert was a blast and the whole gym was almost like Araneta Colisuem.
The year ended full of new experiences, experiences that we will bring with us towards our next Highschool years.
As I take a step on the grounds of Atheneum, I realized how fast time flies. I was already a Junior. We only have few time left to spend in our second home.
We were again divided into two sections: Neon handled by Sir Aldrin
and Argon handled by Sir Rondel.
Ms. Grace and Ms. Kris had to leave after our second year in highschool. And I really do believe that they left for good.
We were welcomed by such fear and anxiety because, as we have heard from others, third year is the hardest year for highschool students.
We had many subjects to study plus the approval of performance task for students and the most alarming, the CAT.
Most of us anticipated the CAT and gave their best shots at it. It took most of our Saturdays, but we enjoyed it.
In fact, after CAT sessions, we usually found ourselves hanging around Jollibee or somebody’s house.
We had to bear the hardship of being a cadete. We had to endure the pain and tiredness that we feel every Saturday.
And in the end Lorenzo Bonicillio was declared Corps Commander, Dominique Navarro as the Executive Officer,
, Ian Sintos as the Adjudant, Jasan Mangalindan as the OTAP, Janine vidal as the LSO, and Ac as the I.O.
Of course, who would ever forget our SS Performance task?
The TRASHiyon show wherein we need to make dresses out of trash and we will be presenting/modeling it.
This performance task was a blast. Some of my classmates wore a very bewildering, miraculous, and stupendous outfits, some are made out of leaves, sack, papers and whatsoever trash you can find everywhere.
Igor Hellman and Nica Latayan with Lyka Alonzo gave outstanding performances ramping their dresses.
Meanwhile Argon also presented a spectacular performance, their dresses were far beyond the ordinary, or in tagalog “bongga”.
But what matters most is that we made the best out of it and we never fail to make Sir Alvin happy.
Everyone looked stunning with their recycled gowns and suits. Thanks to Sir Alvin for this wonderful and tremendous idea.
Our first Js prom also took place. Everyone was looking stupendous and breathtaking with their gowns and coats.
We all filled the dancefloor with dance fever but only Reine and Paulo stood out the most and were hailed as the prom princess and prince respectively,
, it was a sight to behold, with all of us looking elegant and handsome. Indeed it was a night to remember forever.
. This is also the first time when Sophomores and Juniors became competitive with each other.
But we never conceded and we didn’t let other people bring us down.
In fact We are the champions in Volleyball Girls, 1st place -Basketball boys, and 1st place –Volleyball boys. Who said we’re losers? We’re not losers.
It is just that 4th year basketball and volleyball boys were better than us.
Still we have the championship in volleyball girls, I remember when awarding day came, we especially the volleyball girls are so excited for we are going to receive medals.
The Mythical six was announced and so were other awards, we were all waiting for the MVP for volleyball-girls.
Others have rumors mentioning names from our team but when it was announced, everyone was in a state of shock.
we didn’t expect that the MVP will be from the other team, It is the very first time IN ATHENEUM HISTORY that the MVP is not from the champion team.
Well maybe it’s true, that life is really unfair but you just need to move on and pretend you don’t care.
Some of us spent our summer vacation attending the UPCAT review that Atheneum offered.
Some spent their vacation working hard for the training in volleyball, both boys and girls, also in basketball, mainly the boys.
It was really a summer to remember and we believe that we improved more than before.
Summer passed by quickly and June came again.
We had Sir Marvin Maming as Quartzite’s Adviser .
and Sir Alvin Ramos as Obsidian’s adviser.
One of the most memorable Performance Tasks that we had is the “Musical” wherein all of us will be having a dance and song number.
Each group will perform live in front of our classmates and Sir Marvin.
. I must say this is one of the most interesting Performance tasks that we’ve done.
. Although not all are good in dancing and singing we still manage to perform well.
Since we are near the finish line in high school we need to prepare files, applications needed for our college entrance exams.
We were asked to complete our application forms for UP and other prestigious universities namely – ATENEO, DLSU and UST.
I must say that though it’s just June or July we are too busy filling out and securing the application forms.
This is also the year when we had so many outreach programs mainly handled by the CAT officers.
. Like Oplan Habagat, outreach programs and the very first, first aid training seminar, a legacy that will leave behind.
Debate month came and we were surprised that no one won, it’s tied with the Juniors and it is also the very first time that this happened.
Just like in the past two years we again joined the annual Municipal Meet, this time it was a sports event to remember Lyka Alonzo is the muse and she ranked 1st place.
We ranked second runner up for the basketball boys, first runner up in the basketball girls category,
CHAMPION in badminton by Paulo Carsula, and CHAMPION in volleyball girls
And because of the results, we were invited to play in NCSU all of the volleyball girls will be playing.
Some of the basketball girls played too. Paulo Carsula will also be playing for badminton.
. The NCSU was held in our gym and it was really an event to remember. Players from other schools were there, we were really amazed of how others played.
We went to Tagaytay for our retreat, where we stayed for three days and two nights.
We had the chance to relax and go back and think of the things that we’ve done for the past 3 years.
We had the chance to forgive those who have hurt us and say sorry to those that we hurt.
We also formed deeper and stronger relationships/friendships before this school year comes to a close.
Who would ever forget the sessions we had with Bro. Ron.
Those activities that make us realize the things that we have are taken for granted, the chances that we had ignored,
and how lucky we are that we have parents, friends, and teachers. Those activities brought tears.
January came and we started practicing for the most waited cheerdance competition.
The whole high school was busy preparing for this. All dances and practiced so hard like they badly want the banner.
After a month-long preparation, Foundation week came and it was judgement time.
Unlike the past 3 years, this time it was really a competition needed to be prepared well, this is our last competition and the pressure was really on us.
Watching other year levels practice, especially the Juniors really made us tensed and worried.
We enjoyed the whole routine and smile till it ends.
In the end, we won and ended up as champions! Can you imagine?
Indeed through hard work, perseverance, determination and teamwork we can do anything.
Thanks to Sir Alvin and Sir Marvin for the full support and to Kuya Eyt Balud for teaching and making us good dancers.
We may not be the most popular batch Atheneum ever had, and we may not be the most talented students, but one thing for sure,
we developed a relationship that will never be broken by anyone else, just like what the Atheneum hymn said “through victory or through defeat” we are “unkaboggable”,
we are united, we are a team, we will never forget the time when Sir.Alvin cried in front of us and hugged us,
we will never forget how Sir. Marvin forgave us, and lastly we will never forget the very first time we all met each other.
And now as we go to the next journey of our lives, we would like to thank our alma mater,
ATHENEUM,
for shaping us into the persons we are today.
Thank you to all teachers and advisers that taught us everything.
And to God thank you for today, yesterday and tomorrow.
Our families, our joys, our sorrows, and for all that made us stronger.
Letting go is one of the hardest thing ever but we needed to do this,
though in just a few more weeks we are going to be separated still,
there are too many memories that will always be here and in our hearts.
I may not mention all the greatest things that happened to our batch but I knew that all of the seniors know that by heart.
We finally found ourselves growing and smiling with the school. Our school – ATHENEUM.
Batch 2012-2013 mabuhay and good bye. TEAM SENIORS.
