It is intrinsic of democracy to be imperfect.
I’m not saying that
so that people don’t feel guilty
for the occasional mistakes with democracy,
but I say that for people to really understand
that democracy is always, whether it’s in your country,
or in North America and Europe,
democracy is always a work, an infinite work,
an endless, continuous work.
It is intrinsic of democracy.
The difference between democracy and totalitarianism
is that totalitarianism is a regime
in which there is a moment they say:
"that’s it, the right society is done". That’s totalitarianism.
Democracy is the regime that knows
that excellence is like a horizon
that goes away as we believe we are approaching.
And that, anyway, we can never touch.
