Welcome to The Daily Extra. With Greg Lalas, I'm Jason Saghini.
This is probably one of the more difficult Dailys we've ever done.
In the rain. But we're here in Harold's Square.
At the penalty kick contest. Where they are going to break the world record
for most penalty kicks taken in four hours. And I don't think you just want to say "they".
You mean "we". Because we're going to get out there and take
a shot. We have had one spill so far.
But I think most of the rest of us are going to get in there.
And put our ball away. Yeah, hoping I'm not the next one to take
the spill. I want to mention a bunch of stuff that's
going on today and into tomorrow, obviously. The big week for the All Star game.
Today the All Stars practiced together for the first time down in Pier 40 in this city.
Jamsion Olave saying he still has a thorn in his side over last year's result.
Not happy with that loss. I don't think you're ever happy with a 5-2
loss, Jason. Especially in a featured game like that.
So I can imagine that all the guys on the MLS side.
They're feeling very competitive. That was the mandate from MLS this year.
Be competitive in this one. Alright, our own Jackie Pickering was at the
practice with a report. Thanks so much guys.
Well I'm here at Pier 40 for the first day of training for the MLS All Stars.
It was pretty basic. A lot of basic drills for the guys.
It seemed like they were getting along. Getting to know each other better as teammates.
Before they take the pitch on game day. But of course there were some notable names
missing from the training field. Such as goalkeeper Kasey Keller.
Who will join the team out here in New York on Wednesday.
As well as Landon Donovan. Who will be out with a nagging calf injury,
guys. We want to mention some of the stuff that
went on today. And some of the stuff you can check out on
the site. We recorded ExtraTime Radio down at the Hub
today. Juan Agudelo there and Brad Davis joined us.
We found out if Juan Agudelo could actually put away a similar Mario Balotelli pirouette
goal. And Brad Davis.
Some people call him David Beckham with a left foot.
It's the other way around, though. Beckham is the Brad Davis with a right foot.
Alright and Agudelo of course loves the story of credit card roulette.
So plenty to say. And Columbian food.
Plenty to say from the Red Bulls youngster. Also a press conference today took place again
at the Hub. David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Alex Ferguson.
All on hand for that. Some interesting stuff coming out of the press
conference. One of them, Alex Ferguson obviously mentioned
that soccer continues to grow in the US. Each year that the Manchester United come
back. He sees that growth.
Thierry Henry coming out and saying he is done with Europe.
He's not headed back there. He said he wouldn't even go back on a loan
at this point. He does not want to go back and play in Europe
at this point. So some good stuff coming out of there.
Ok we want to mention a couple of other things. To let you know what you can check out on
mlssoccer.com today and tomorrow. So there'll be a penalty kick shootout recap.
You'll get to see the highlights from this event and the record breaker.
Also tomorrow we're going to do a live ExtraTime Radio from down at the Hub.
And a special guest. Alex Morgan from the U.S. Women's National
team. Will join us on that podcast.
Also tell everybody that All Star 360. The first episode will be out tomorrow morning.
It's a behind the scenes look. Following the All Stars around through all
the events that they're doing. Should be very entertaining.
There's so much going on with the All Star game here in New York, obviously.
We're very excited. We'll have all the coverage on mlssoccer.com.
That's all we have for The Daily Extra. Stay tuned to mlssoccer.com all week.
We have plenty of coverage for everything going on.
