The purpose of this tip is to help you organize the list of shells that show up on
your My Institution
and Courses pages in Blackboard. Because Waubonsee keeps shells around for a
year after the associated courses have ended
you can end up with a long list shells. Fortunately Blackboard provides a nice
way to group shells by terms,
otherwise known as semesters, and hide those terms that you're not interested in.
Let's see how this is done
I'll demonstrate the techniques on the My Institution page first
and then afterwards show you how to apply the same techniques to the Courses
page.
To begin with you need to bring up the My Institution page.
This can be done by logging into mywcc
and then clicking on the Bb icon in the upper right corner.
Or you can get to it by logging into Blackboard directly
at http://waubonsee.blackboard.com.
Your list of shells shows up in the My Courses box on the right.
Uou can see that I've a fairly long list here.
Actually the first thing that I want to do, in order to make My Courses
easier to access, is to drag it up to the top of the page.
I can do this by clicking and dragging on the My Courses title bar.
The Group by Term setting can be found on the Personalize My Courses page.
To get to that, I click on the gear icon that shows up on the right side of the
My Courses title bar
when I hover my mouse over it.
This takes me to the Personalize My Courses page.
Up at the top of the page you'll find a Group by Term checkbox.
When you check the checkbox you get a list of all available terms or semesters.
For each semester
you can set whether or not to display the shells in that semester
and whether the list of those shells should be initially expanded or
collapsed
I'd suggest leaving the Show Term check boxes all checked
so that all semesters will continue to be available but uncheck
all of the Expand Term check boxes except the one for the current semester.
You can also click and drag on the two-way arrows to reorder the terms;
so that you can, for example, put the current term at the top.
Then click on Submit to save your changes.
When I do that you see that My Courses now only displays
those shells for the current semester as well as shells
not associated with any semester.
To look at shells from a previous or upcoming semester
you only need to click on the semester name.
The courses tab also displays a list that your shells
in the Course List box.
The Course List box also has a gear icon that will take you to a Personalize
Course List page.
You'll find a Group by Term check box on that page that works exactly the same as the
one on the Personalize My Courses page.
This tip has demonstrated how to group the list of shells that appear on the
My Institution
and Courses pages into terms or semesters
using the Group by Term check box. You've also seen how to display or hide the
shells in a given semester.
