Listen, lad. Remember what ye told me yesterday?
You said something about determinism...
Oh yea', you defined free will as a freedom from it,
and that you were proud to call yourself an incompatibilist.
I have to say, I agree with you, but I cannot share your view that determinism is true
and thus free will is not possible. 'Cause free will requires that the agent be able to take more than one possible course of action
under a given set of circumstances. You simply cannot argue that some non-physical mind, will, or soul
overrides physical causality. Physical determinism implies there is only one possible future
and is therefore not compatible with my libertarian view of free will, laddie.
Ye also said that if determinism is true, then we have no control over the events of the past
that determined our present state and no control over the laws of nature.
But since we can have no control over these matters, we also can have no control over the consequences of them.
How do you feel about this, mate?
Wha' did you say?
